HWDC Mid Point Meet Up
-
San Francisco - Denim City, but very expensive if you're travelling from outside the USA.
New York - Most exciting city in the world, not a place for relaxation.
Tokyo - Home of IH Denim, visit the Works.
-
Are we doing all 3?
-
There's a poll on top
-
haha whoops didnt see that on the table sorry
-
Unfortunately man if SF is the same price this year as it is next then there is no way I will be able to afford to fly the family out there, which pretty much rules it out for me. But the meet will happen where the majority decides, I don't have to be there for it to happen.
-
I have, still pondering.
-
Split the difference? HWDC meet up in Chicago? A SE or IH pop-up shop could be organized. Might be kind of cool to show the Midwest some love, and it could spread awareness of IH to a market that is under-penetrated. I know that most IH and (I'm assuming) HWDC members live on either coast, but it could make this meet up even more unique. I am guessing Chicago is cheaper than the other cities, too.
In regards to Tokyo, SF, and NYC, it's a win, win, win. You can't go wrong.
-
I think we should do the one most people can get to. We want more than 8 people rocking up
-
Exactly Todd, that's why the poll is there.
-
off topic but relevant, mega not sure how things work on your side of the pond, but with all the jeans & boots you sell for these companies with these comps you should really consider maybe trademarking heavyweight comp or something along those lines. it might help you if you are able to claim all your travel as a work/small biz related expense and then you would be able to at least write off a lot of your expenses and maybe even generate a little revenue with your vice, i mean hobby.
something to think about as i know i wouldn't have bought those heavy busters or at least two pairs of boots in my closet if you weren't involved . . . .
-
You sound like Pam ha ha. Yeh, I know I might have missed a trick on this, but I guess none of us knew if it was going to be a success or not, I'm just happy to get great brands line Iron Heart and Whites on board with this to be honest.
Maybe next time I'll register the trade mark and license options for official involvement etc…. But I still wanted it to be about the love of denim rather than money. I'm only learning now that grand plans need grand finance, especially when you have three to think about rather than one :-\
-
Well feck it then, public domain it is
-
In Australia you can get an "abn" for quite cheap which says you have a business then you can claim tax back. but I guess you need an income on that to claim.
-
maybe for a nominal fee you can call the Heavy Weight an advertising biz and the comps the ultimate grass roots campaign . . . then instead of trademarking Heavy Wait no i mean Weight, you can go the route of maybe a LLC or something else small, just so you can write off some items.
This is all hear-say & internet speak, so take it with a grain of salt but, in the States you can have a small biz and as long as it turns a small profit once every 3 or so years the folks usually leave you alone. It can't hurt to look into it & you are in pretty unchartered territory so for the most part you can write your own rules.
Oh and i'm sure i sound nothing like mini as i'm an angry man & she's a pleasant lady
on topic, NY for a meet just cause i like to show up when time allows & make fun of people from abroad
-
End of the day let's sort out where the most people can get to. To me it looks ny but we need mega there either way as he has done so much for us. :))
-
Thanks Todd, but it doesn't really need me to be there. If it ends up in NY or Tokyo I will be there, if it ends up in SF I will try my hardest to be there.
-
Also, just to add, please don't vote if you have no intention of going. I have this horrible image of struggling my ass off for the next year to get to SF because 25 people wanted to meet there, only to find there are actually 6 folks who made it.
