IHSH-27 - 12oz Selvedge Denim Western Shirt
-
I don't give a feck what I'm supposed to do. I liked the raw feeling so I wore it raw. Period. It's true, that the shrinkage comes when it's soaked / washed, but I don't see that as order to soak before I wear it some days - unless the fit screams for some shrinkage, which mine didn't.
Also, it has been washed now and the fades didn't shift or anything, so I'm fine.

hmm, that is interesting.. you know actually i cant be bothered to soak the shirt because the weather here is always cloudy lately, so i might do the same like you did

Well, I usually only handwash my denim, so it works for me. But of course, if you plan on hot ashing in the machine and maybe even use a dryer, a soak wouldn't harm. it's just no "must" IMO.
-
The reason for soaking raw denim is only in part to get the shrinkage out, it is also to bed in the constructional threads, if you do not soak raw denim prior to wear you will reduce the life of the garment…...So yes, of course no "must" just seems a little silly to me to reduce the life of a perfectly good garment....
-
I know that this argument is valid and often uttered, but we're speaking of a few days here and of a shirt, that gets less stress than a pair of jeans. Again, my opinion and personal experience…

IH SH 27 worn since April, two handwashes.

"Bedding in the constructional threads"–I had never thought about this aspect before. It seems extremely important in hindsight now. I may go ahead and soak my raw workshirts now.

I wish it was mine….
Damn. Shirt looks good though. You would know that already by my "Like."
-
This is what it might look like after approx. 5 months (worn since April, almost everyday since Oct. but not in "summer").

Denim shirts are definitely stubborn, at least the 27 sure has been. But after nearly a year, the 27 starts to give in and it's certainly my favorite IH item I've purchased (superblack type 3 a close 2nd). This is a shirt that will one day be my next project.
@Max:

It's not mine, it's in the bathroom at my best friend's tattoo shop..
It's a framed sheet of original uncut stickers. I'll ask him where he got it from..
