John Lofgren (Speedway)

@QuantumMechanic I finally got the TSPTRs. It took them forever to ship them… over 2 weeks from the time shipped to actually getting them. I thought maybe I was getting scammed. But they sent me a shipping confirmation on Monday and I got them today. Their order confirmation said I'd have them by the 26th, and it's now the 6th. I sent 2 emails asking about them and they never responded. I sent them and email through PayPal asking about them, too. (Because I was ready to request a refund). I feel really guilty about being an asshole, if I was. Because I liked the shoes so very much.
I am glad I bought them, because they are very comfortable and awesome. Usually Chuck Taylor's (and clones) are super narrow and uncomfortable. These are roomy in the width and are very sturdy. I'd put the denim in the 8-10 oz category, and it is missing the nep of the Sugar Cane denim... and the brown chunks. Seems sanforized and is very, very soft and smooth.
The construction is identical to the Lofgren's, though. Lined with canvas on the inside and perfect stitching (I mean flawless). Hefty double soles and insoles with arc support on the outside of the arc that keeps your foot from rolling outward. I had some New Balances made from cone mills denim. But I fucked them up in the washing machine. I usually don't like sneakers. But I got them because they were made out of denim... But these are very unpretentious and minimalist. 10/10.
Worth the parking ticket and the wait. Fucking awesome. Thank you.

Sweet @Filthy25ozJunkie!!! They look fantastic; So glad that they worked out for you. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are made in the same factory as the Lofgren's. They are heavy beasts eh!
Nope you weren't being an ass whatsoever. It's not very difficult to type in a response to someone who has already paid for a product. Enjoy them!!!
Would love to see a pic of your NB!

TSPTR contract Lofgren to produce all their Made in Japan products.
The 'Cadet' is exactly the same as the 'Champion'.

Quick conditioning as the UK skies have been unkind of late. Loving the patina.

Just received my first pair of JL Engineers - went with the black CXL. I got them TTS on a hope and a prayer that they would fit. Generally happy since my feet are wide and they are snug through the ball, only downside right now is the heel lift I'm getting, even with thicker socks.
I think I either just wear them a bit to see if the heel lift declines or just get a pair of 3/4 insoles - I tried some full length ones and, while they helped on the heel, the front half became uncomfortably tight.
Leaving tomorrow on a week of travel across the US (5 cities in 4 days - truly planes/trains/automobiles) so look forward to seeing how they work out.
-
Well these are breaking in nicely and I can feel the heel lift declining slightly.
Question for those of you who've had these for a while… @Chiba J. @mclaincausey @summ3rhays
How quickly does the figure-8 stitching on the outsole wear out? I've been doing a lot of walking in these so far this week through airports, on concrete sidewalks, etc. and, even though the first time they were worn was Monday, they have already worn through enough where the many of the stitches are already broken, especially in the forefoot area. I assume it does not materially impact durability or secure attachment of the outsole correct? Is it primarily cosmetic?
-
@Manticore Sorry man, never owned a pair. My engineers are the IH Viberg Wild Ones.
-
Oops, sorry! I thought you owned a pair.
-
I don't own any, but I'm confident that the stitching has little to no value at all constructionally.
-
Thanks @Chris - that's what I thought.
-
@Manticore here’s a quick pic of mine, which Have had About the same amount of use as yours.
The broken fireman’s stitch won’t affect the boots at all.. these boots are about as well made as can be. -
Thanks @Boyo . Looks fairly close to mine - just a bit more separation. Will try to get a pic posted this weekend.
-
All of my boots have had that stitching break rather quickly… everything from Lofgrens to Role Clubs to Clinch so I don't think it's an issue at all.
-
I wore these to the California Custom Knife Show this past Saturday and had 4 people come over and ask me about them and where they could get a pair. Popular boots!
-
Trade wanted!
I have a pair of Lofgren engineers in brown cxl in size 9.5 with the original box. I need a size 10!
If anyone has a 10 they may want to trade for 9.5s, let's talk. Message me - maybe we can work something out.
Brown would be ideal but open to other colors as well - I love these and rather than sell I want to trade for a pair that fit.
-
They look great!
-
Donkey Punchers look rad.
