@summ3rhays. So killer. Straight up perfect chukka. Between these and the Alden chukka color 8 in shell, antique welt/commando sole…idk. Knowing Lofgrens these appear far more utilitarian. Perfect work companion. Pretty tough between the black and brown too. Hope they fit great. The last looks great. Interesting you went up .5 on your RW. I lucked out with the M43 in my RW (IR) size 10.5 and they are likely the most comfortable boot/last I've tried.
-
@Jdub They fit pretty well. There is a touch of heel slip, but I expect it to go away once they break in. I went up to 11.5 because the 11 at Standard and Strange was sold out, and I'm glad I did. My foot would be cramped in the toe box and these feel unrelenting in that part of the boot. I don't think it's structured, but it's solid.
-
@summ3rhays. Very nice. Yeah such a crap shoot particularity with a chukka eh. The toe box can be deceiving as they appear/known to be rather forgiving and then combine the vamp which can be voluminous leading to less than ideal support and heal slip. You only have that little sweet spot in the vamp that has to be perfect.

This just happened…

Actually soaked these and the Badalassi in warm water. Was bored and annoyed with the excess (imo) toe box and instep leather. They indeed shrunk up and look better IMHO. Toe box is perfect. Finally determined with a sole of such a height combined with the minimal toe box space in the engineer, even half soles weren't for me and these work great without an insole…once they're broken in and the toe bed conforms to the foot. Couldn't even fit my foot in the toe box with an insole now. Just perfectly laid on the foot thereafter. Look pretty good with the XHSib.

thanks for the answer Tom!
you guys really making it hard as feck to find my way into the world of engineer boots though and what pair to get as "the first" (angry in a positive way that is!)
White's, Viberg, Wesco, Lofgren, Mister Freedom…god damn it ain't easy! ^^
Agreed, I like the wescos for the black fire leather and think they might be a bit more rugged than the lofgrens so my thinking was that they will serve a great looking purpose in the winter and bad weather as well as allowing be to keep one boot a solid black for a more "dress" look I suppose. I can't wait to get my lofgrens looking like VEB's.
well which one are you talking about?
Awesome

I’m confused. You say excessive toe box leather but also limited toebox space. Seems contradictory.?

@Bfd70 Sorry not to fawn. These boots are worn for like yard work, playing Siegfried and Roy with my tree rats , manly shit. It's a weird boot/last as other's have indicated. Hard to get on yet the instep is sloppy leading to the inevitable insole(s) fix then with the horween the toe box/instep stretched out with the volume increase imho. Didn't experience this so much with the Badalassi. Still love em though. The S&S horsehide version is dope AF. Would I buy them for full price knowing how these two fit? Not a chance. True story. Hope this helps others.

just received a new pair of boots. -> John Lofgren M43 service boots
this is an anniversary limited model from veg tanned horsehide.
very nice quality and fit.spare set of laces and dust bags(rear case for work boots).
nice leather with interesting color and touch, hard to see on my photos, but really nice.
boots are comfortable right from the box, probably partially because of unstructured toe box… I like them already.

I definitely didn't need a pair but I kind of regret not getting a pair of those 10A M43's. Such a good looking boot. If they made the combats in that leather I would have pulled the trigger.

@Bulatik85 those are an absolute 10. You could get away with those being the only footwear in your life. Would love to hear fit info.

@Bfd70 hi!
do you mean the some sizing information or just how they feel?from the personal feeling, they are very comfortable, the leather is supple and flexible, don't see that they need any break in.
they also sit very well on my feet, no slip or anything like that, very well secured on the feet.
I used to have some problems with some boots fit, they hurt my big toe. it is probably somehow nonstandard one and in case of unstructured toebox it is much more freedom to adapt to the feet shape.I didn't yet had a chance to wear them(only at home), the weather in my location is very wet now with a lot of mud and melted snow with solt on the streets. I've decided to wait a little for more dry weather
the veg tanned leather is usually very breathable, supple, but not that much water resistant, like chrome tanned leather.if you need sizing advice, please ask.

If they do make the M43s in that leather again, I just might have to pull the trigger. I have three pairs of Lofgrens now and I feel that's excessive, but dammit those just look too damn good, especially once they age a bit.
