I've been looking at those Hoggs Rannoch boots as well.  From what I've heard they're made by Cheaney, but used to be made by Alfred Sargent.

Yes I have the shoe version, they are beasts, never worn a harder shoe.  Zero bend.  But strangely comfortable.  Go for it.  One bit of feedback got for a flatter sole, the commando sole is SHIT on ice or anything remotely skiddy or mossy.

I'll go for the Commando, I'll use them for long trudges over wet fields and the like…..

Sure grass they will rip it up np, but bewarned on any slippy surface its another world.

Try a pair of crepe soled Russels.  After them, a pair of Commando soles feel like you're wearing crampons - true story….

I've been tempted with those Thorogood Roofers boots for a while. Nice boots for a good price, how do you like them?

They were pretty hard to wear initially, but now I love them to death. They got some stains from raw denim now which gives them a nice patina.
Definitely recommended.
