Giles's Swim for Charity

Nice.
You're on your way to becoming a ocean swimming superstar, aren't you?

Today, I swam properly in the sea for the first time….I did 50 minutes, but as my computer has not arrived yet, I can only guess distance. I reckon about 1/2 mile with the tide and the wind and then 1/4 mile against both.
Impressions:
- Actual swimming in the sea is easier than in the pool
- Spotting or sighting is a skill I seriously need to improve upon quickly. I reckon I swam 20-25% further than I needed to.
- I like the flotation the wet suit gives me, but it may prove too hot on the actual swim
- Swimming in anything, is seriously stupid after a "candle at both ends" week in Japan and a long flight home....

Did about a mile in the sea this morning. I say "about" because whilst the Hydro Tracker has arrived, I'm having problems downloading the software…..Bloody Doh....
I swam with a lovely lady called Ali who is also reasonably local and like me, wanted a buddy. We have a standing arrangement with her for 10:00 on the beach every Sunday.
My sighting was a lot better and actually managed to swim in something approximating the direction I intended

Sighting ruins me in the ocean. If I can do 20 strokes to a spot it's an achievement. Many times I am looking up every eight. What are the tips to do this well? I sometimes try to fix it in some weird mental mind space. I can see how vital it is in the type of point to point you are training for….
