Random Rants

I have lots of family around Phoenix. Putting a giant metropolis in a place where climate and geography so strongly oppose one has always struck me as a particularly stupid and arrogant human endeavor. The resources (from elsewhere) required to make it habitable, and even golf course laden, boggle the mind. No offense to Phoenix dwellers intended.

Hey man, no offense taken. I was born here so I have no choice…well I mean I guess I do I'm a grown ass man and I can up and move if I want but it just doesn't make sense for me on so many levels at this point in my life. But it has always kind of boggled my mind the amount of people that migrate here every year but then again I have never had to deal with the extreme cold or "shoveling snow out of the driveway" as my dad would always say about his native Ohio.
However I do have to say that the desert really can be a beautiful place to be when it's not 158 degrees and the housing is still relatively cheap compared to other parts of the country... so I see the draw. The city is just getting too damn big, especially in terms of square mileage. You can easily drive for over an hour on the open freeway and still be in the Phx metro area.
As much as I dislike frigid temps and extreme heat I can't imagine not living somewhere that has 4 seasons. Half of my wardrobe would be rendered useless. My ex-wife has an aunt/uncle and some cousins in Phoenix. When we were married we had talked about visiting but now that isn't happening

I think the fact that I'm a native to the desert heat makes me a wuss when it comes to cold temps which is honestly a good for thing for me in terms of my wardrobe. I will wear my UHF's when it hits low 60's and below where as a person who is used to the cold weather, such as yourself, would probably be sweating their ass off in a UHF at those temps.

That's pretty much it for me. I've lived in cold climate most of my life so i'm used to it. During the winter months i'll wear my lighter weight flannels if it's 20 to 60 degrees out but below 20 I wear my UHF. But I do layer a lot too.

I meant the absence of Photofuckit pictures as it's not free anymore. The new forum layout is great and easy to navigate.
My sentiments entirely.

Yep, they've done a great job of screwing the DWC judging too
-
yeah. i'm absolutely pissed at them. for many years, they've been my go to for sharing images. they're still free to use and upload, but what's the point when you can't share them on message board you dimwits?!?! i've got a few years of photos on there i believe and none of them will be shown on any message boards and i'll look stupid
-
It's going to very difficult. The integrity of the Forum (and 1000's of other places like this) will be completely screwed up.
If they don't reverse the decision, at least for images posted prior to when some fuckwit decided that this was a good thing to do, then I'll rest easy knowing that every time anyone using the web see's this, they will hate photofukkit even more….

as annoying as this will come across. I've been waiting for photobucket to pull this stunt for sometime., seemed like their hosting costs would be out of control, and this is one way to pull it in, especially once you've got people's photos - they're over a barrel then. It's why for all the years of photos I have here, I've used flickr, google, tumblr, or even something of my own and direct linked to the image. Always been a bit of a pain to link the images, but being in a situation where my images wouldn't be held hostage was worth the price for me.
I suspected 5-10% of people will pay photobucket and they'll make a ton of cash from it as a result…
-
Yeah I've always used imgur.
-
I've always felt it was a pain in the arse to use Phtobucket and couldn't understand why people still went for it. There were always better, faster and more reliable options out there. The best option is when the forum hosts its own images so it's not dependent on other sites - like it does now.

photobucket has been an ease to use ever since i've been using it since 2010/2011. the only thing of recent times that has been bothering me is the ads and slower user interface. for me, when something i use is going well, i would not bother to change my routine.
they also have an iphone app that makes it even more easier to use as i can upload straight from my phone and link it from the website on my computer. all the photos i take bypass my phone too (6D, Drift 4k). i know back in the day, they used to disable the 3rd party hosting after you get X amount of views which sounds fair, but holding you hostage right now by only allowing people to pay seems a tad too much..

Alternatives (apart from the super duper very amazing - but only any use on this forum Iron Heart Image Uploader)…

Couldn't agree more
