Lifter problems
-
Bought a pair of 634 OD about a month ago. Sized down 1. Wearing them for the first time today. My quads have grown significantly in that month! Going to be putting the stretchability of the 21oz to the test over the coming weeks! Good news is the waist still fits perfectly. So at least i know my bulking up is working. #lifterproblems

633 & 634S. I have been lifting for many years and these two have fit my thighs the best, with room to spare. I had to get the 634S' tapered because the straight cut follows to the hem.

You should not be "bulking" unless your overall volume increases.
Bulking is cause either by 1. Hypertrophy (which usually happens due to 1. A lot of volume in short amount of time or 2. Reps in the 8-12+ range at moderate loads) or 2. A caloric increase compared to your metabolic rate.
Just because you get stronger doesn't mean your legs will
Get bigger. However, bigger legs usually do mean stronger legsNow this is hypertrophy range haha-
This was a 1-10-1-20-1-30 squat workout. 30 reps at 90% BW after 20 reps @100%BW and 10 reps at 110% BW and some heavy singles thrown in the mixhttps://instagram.com/p/BO-qSzhlO0_/

Maybe bulking was the wrong term. My point is that 3x3 at heavier weight should result in less mass gained than 5x5 at a lower weight (but comparable level of perceived effort).
Also, you're strong as hell. There's no f'ing way I'd ever be able to do even 1/3 of that workout. Impressive work.

@JDelage - I agree with you about the 3x3 vs 5x5. Unless there is a huge increase in loading paired with a huge increase in caloric intake. Some strength athletes will actually use deloading in volume and an increase in caloric intake to force faster recovery or taper before a meet or game.
and Im not really strong. im one of the weaker dudes in my own damn gym haha.

Another #lifterproblems member here. I wear a 34 (often buy a 33 to account for stretch), and my thighs measure ~25. So any jeans that measure less than 12.5 flat are an absolute no go. I usually like to see 13-13.5 because I don't like tight pants. I also tend to have issues with the top block being tight around the low hip area, which was my problem with the brown whipcord workpants that I had to send back.
I'm currently wearing the IH 1955S, which are pretty good in the leg, but as I mentioned in that other thread (that we got booted from), the rise on these is very high. I still like them, but it makes the pockets seem short, and I have trouble walking up stairs with a phone in my pocket.
I've found that the momotaro copper label G019-MB work well, although I have little time in them since it's winter and I've been sticking with my 1955s. I think I have an advantage because I don't care for narrow leg openings either, so I don't need an extreme taper. I have relatively long legs so I think the wider lower legs balance that out.

I too have this same issue and I have found the Iron Heart 633, Railcar Spikes, and Left Field Greaser (for a more straight leg fit) and Charles Atlas (for a tapered fit) fits work.

It definitely loosens up some but not loads like the 17oz does. I'm 20 days into my SBG 21oz 555's now and the upper thigh measures about 3mm bigger than it did new. Not loads but noticeable. The last pair I had in the regular 21oz ended up nearly a cm bigger, but I absolutely trashed those using them as work pants on a summer long building project.

Thanks man, i am hoping for 0.5" but that might be too hopefully. My quads have blown up in a month. Seriously considering training them less

@Appfaff & @neph93 or anyone really, you got any experience in the amount of stretch i'll get in the thighs with the 21oz? I can feel it stretching after only a few days but be nice to know what i can expect
My 301 stretched almost half a size, maybe 0.25-0.4" in the thigh - while my 21oz SBG haven't stretched quite as much. I remember my ODBB stretched about 0.3 in the thighs
Good luck!
And Neph, how on earth have your 17oz stretched a bunch… mine have yet to give at all haha [emoji23]

Are we talking the same IH 17oz natural indigo denim? Mine are the 555N. No denim I've ever had stretches so much. I easily got .5" in the thigh. Mind you, I needed it [emoji28]

My 633N have not given even a CM lol god knows I kneed it too [emoji12]

I started going to the gym about 6 months ago. I used to bike everywhere for most of my exercise. I'm also eating more, trying to gain weight and muscle. My thighs have really grow. MY DWCxUHRs used to be fine in the thighs and now they are uncomfortably tight, so I'm going to retire them. I went to SE today and got a pair of 633-14oz. They had a nice amount of room in the thing and a good taper. Pretty psyched about them, and hoping the lighter weight can carry me through the summer.

I'd take a different approach. I have an actual 28" waist. My quad-ham circumference is at least 24". Plus I have a black girl booty. I wear 29" 634-SV (which Giles let out a little in the thighs). Cold water stretching is my solution. I've asked a LOT of the outseam so I got them wet and cold wearing them and partial-squatted into the "top bucket" to get them taught on my quads, and directly massage the denim there. Pushing it out by putting the heels of my hands together, using my fingers to anchor, I press in and stretch out from the approximate center. There is approximately 0 "roominess", but because I can I can hike them all the way up to the crotch, I have freedom of movement (Giles calls Vulcan a stubborn denim). I'm not trying to catch a snatch ass to grass in these jeans.
So the point is, I look at the measurements. But I think Iron Heart could look at the possibility of "open waste-to-glute-to-thigh ratio" jeans. Specific "IH-ISJ", I dunno, IH- iron sports jeans. I understand how exclusory a fit like this would be (sweepingly irrelevant to most), but it'd be it's own corner of the market. And you know you start from average and only fit to larger than average. I've looked fairly exhaustively at pre-fab designs ($100-$350) and there is always a hefty sacrifice to make. Either in rise, oversized waist, taper(-less) options and so on. A higher back yolk combined with a little more fabric between the hip crease on the front down to the knee.
I have MANY friends that have to buy stretch denim. Or sacrifice form fitting by buying a bigger waist. Many of them complain (my teammate brandon used the word oppressive, lol) about not being able to get ahold of a really super pair of jeans to go out in like "regular" guys. Thing is, I'D buy them, at least a dozen people I know personally would buy them and I cant imagine they wouldnt sell out every time. Olympic weightlifting and bodybuilding (powerlifting not so much in that they often are just big, not big and extremely narrow in the waist. also, cycling, rugby, american football, rowing, gymnastics, etc. ad infinitum) are both iron sports that will INVARIABLY build extreme ratios. Now couple that with how many participate worldwide. Well, we all want put on that FIRE pair of jeans and go out on the town to turn the boys and girls heads.
Iron Hearts are for Iron Sports, whether you play with iron horses or barbells!
