IHSB-WJ - Iron Heart x Simmons Bilt Dark Brown Blattwerk Work Jacket
-
This is one of my favorite leather jackets. The olive-tanned leather has a wonderful texture and non-glossy look. Used to also have a wonderful smell but that is long gone.
However, in the VERY humid climate where I live, this leather is a magnet for mold! I have to take extra care with it and clean/brush it way more often than my other IH leather jacket (IHJ-35, Self Edge version) and another very thin goat leather jacket.
Wonder whether anyone else experienced anything similar?
The pic below tries to show the dull, grayish color in the most commonly mold-infested areas. Along the zippers (circled in yellow). Also occurs on the hem of the sleeves. -
What a gorgeous jacket. Im curious for anyone with some horse hide expertise...how does this Blattwerk leather compare to a more traditional HH tannage? I know it is super soft and pliable. What I love about traditional HH is how the arm creases form those molded rolls and it really shapes to your body over time. Does this Blattwerk behave that way? Seems so soft that it would probably just kinda have a smooth consistent drape. How does it handle getting wet? Seems high humidity may cause some mold issues. I live in a very dry climate so no worry, I suppose. Guess I'm curious if Blattwerk is as rugged and heavy feeling etc.

Very stoked on this piece, my first leather jacket. Fitment is dialed. Leather is supple and luxurious with an incredible aroma.
I normally wear a XXXL in UHF/Westerns, and sized down to a XXL for what I feel is the perfect drape.
Thanks again @coldcashandcolderhearts!

Had this sweet leather for a bit in a hot and dry location. A soft and unique leather (and smell!) for sure. Fit is terrific, looks great, forms well to your body. Even with the internal storm cuffs, easy to wear your watches with. I was initially unsure how I would like those storm cuffs, turns out they are quite good and helps keep your honeycomb sleeves when wearing.
The leather gets dry a lot faster than the chrome-tanned, like my J-64. I just oiled it with Obenauf's oil (not the paste), and the leather sucks the oil up so quickly. Wow! Superb results with that oil in case you guys are thinking about how to treat this leather.

Nice tip on the Obenauf oil , thanks.
