All Things Mac/ Apple

I don't know how to explain it other than that it is total shit. There is a 45 page thread devoted to how awful it is on MacRumors. Examples of problems: awful quality satellite view; no streetview; directions are apparently a disaster; inaccurate; local towns missing or in the wrong place. Etc.

Fuck. Well hopefully they improve in the next update.

there's currently a bug re the app store linking, which apparently you can only fix by going to your date/time settings, turn off auto date set and manually set the date one year in the future. then go back and the link will go to those (very few) apps which are passbook enabled. i guess you can then for example buy a movie ticket on fandango and have it go to passbook etc.

I'm downloading now. You guys are making me less and less excited about the update…
-
Got it on my iPad, still waiting for it on my phone (stupid cottage WiFi).
So far so…meh. Siri doesn't work well in Canada and we don't get Passbook or whatever it's called.
I'm just happy that the apps I spent the last 3 months producing still work.

Some highlights of complaints about Apple Maps reported to the BBC - almost comical!
- Some towns appear to be missing, such as Stratford-upon-Avon and Solihull.
- Others, like Uckfield in East Sussex, are in the wrong location.
- Satellite images of various locations, particularly in Scotland, are obscured by cloud.
- A search for Manchester United Football Club directs users to Sale United Football Club, a community team for ages five and above.
- Users also reported missing local places, such as schools, or strange locations. Another screenshot showed a furniture museum that was apparently located in a river.

I grew up in Solihull, it going missing is probably a good thing….

I guess specs don't really matter.

Interesting article in light of the current release of iPhone 5. This is from 2011, but, after seeing the new Samsung "attack ads" during the games today, I thought it was a relevant post.

I like that.
"Many people try to make a product that everybody will love; Microsoft is a good example," he explains. "If you make a product that everybody loves – you do all your market surveys, and when people don't like something about it you change it – you end up with a bland product that everybody will accept but nobody truly loves."
Apple isn't like that, he says. "Apple says 'We're not going to even worry about it. We're going to make something that we ourselves love. We just assume that anything that we really love, lots and lots of people will love. And if other people really dislike it and hate it, so what. Tough on them.'"
