Luggage Bags and Packs

Lost track of laps now (too many :|). Next lap starts today, same combo, still feeling perfect with it. 9 months and good as day 1. Build quality is flawless and it's been through a lot of abuse.
Given the length and thoroughness of your search, I'm glad it worked out for you.
Are you ever in Sydney these days?

In addition to the Master-Piece bags that mentioned yesterday, Porter do the 'One Shoulder strap' which is very similar. They do loads of the bloody things too, so be surprised if you don't see one that you like! You would probably need to get one from Rakuten though as this particular style is likely to be quite hard to get outside Japan. Couple examples at links below plus there are two by Maxpedition that I threw in that are probably not what you want!

If I were you though I would seriously consider the Bedouin Foundry Genghis. I have one of the old style ones with the single buckle. Although I know you are not after a messenger, the strap on the Genghis is wide and comfortable and the bag sits high on the back.

Ive been really happy with the size and function of the UZ. Only thing id prefer is that it be made from 1000d like gorucks and maxipeds.
For me it's a weight concern. Even my Tad Lightspeed is heavy for it's size. I dont think you really sacrifice that much durability and comfort trumps all for me.

Yeah, it's all in bursts in and out.

The Lotuff Canvas Backpack in navy is currently on sale at $300, down from $650. It looks really nice.

The Carryology Store is now open in Fitzroy, Melbourne. If you are a bag addict, then I highly recommend that you avoid it.
I had a good look around this afternoon, and it's got all the usual suspects, and a few more unusual ones too. From their current line-up I liked:
The one disappointment was that they didn't have the Trakke Assynt in stock, though there were a few of the messenger bags.
The shop has its official opening on September 8th, and there should be a few more things in stock at that point.

It looks amazing! I didnt like the look of the Pequod at first but it has grown on me considerably.

It's a great shop @Anesthetist, but it could destroy my savings.
The Pequod looks interesting. However I saw on Bedouin's Tumblr that a new version of the Ottoman, the Delireis's big brother, is coming. That might be another option.

Loaded out for work. Laptop/tools etc…

There's a piece on the Carryology Store in the Sydney Morning Herald today. It talks about the approach they've taken, and how they've made the jump from online to offline.

I'm in the market for a high-quality no-frills 20 litre backpack for daily commuting/utility use - happy to pay a little more for real quality. Is the Goruck GR1 still the default choice?
-
I am sure kifaru is an alternative @Bill C . A friend rocks one since two years.
But I guess you are in Europe, custom consumes the glory :(.https://store.kifaru.net/antero1500ci245-liters-p189.aspx

@Bill C also consider:
-
Trakke Assynt 28 (£10 off at present with code SCOTLOVE)
-
Teranish Venture (Currently sold out)
-
Defy Bucktown, Theodore, and Verbockel (Promo code DEFYFAMILY)
-
Mystery Ranch Kletterwerks Flip Pack, or one of their military bags
I've seen products by all of the manufacturers, and they seem solid.
Bedouin fans should note that the Ottoman has just been released, and is a larger version of the Delireis. Had it been out a year ago, I'd have bought one.
I've currently got a Defy Verbockel. I don't entirely get on with it, but I haven't found anything that I'd prefer. If you go that way, I'd suggest the Cordura model, as it'll be a metric tonne lighter.
If you're in the UK, End Clothing had the South2 West8 Trek Pack on sale, but I've just checked and it's just gone. Kinoko have it in, but at full price. I was very tempted by End's.
Lastly, the Lotuff Canvas and Leather Backpack is on sale at less than half price. It looks really nice, but I haven't seen one close up. I'm also tempted…

thanks both - some interesting ideas there

Check out the Mystery Ranch offerings. Great quality.
Also, the Tad gear litespeed is excellent in my book.
I have multiple offerings from both of the above and they are excellent.
Also worth looking at Bagjacks packs.
There is also Lexdray, but having handled one. I am not a fan for the price.
