Thought about putting this in either or both of the Music and Instagram threads, but I figure it probably makes the most sense to put it under one roof here as a random announcement.
I've played in bands my whole adult life, but lately have been pivoting more towards pared down solo work. I recently started an Insta to corral my music stuff, plus a new Bandcamp to collect recordings as I work on them, both demos (as are on there right now) and any future stuff that's more fully produced.
If you'd like to check it out, follow me at @palmooremusic (Insta) and palmoore.bandcamp.com. And fyi, I have the demos currently on there as set to a high stream count per song until it asks you to pay, after which putting in $0 is totally fine with me. These are unmastered songs, really just put up to get out there and into people's ears. Thanks, y'all!
Edit: whoops, left the last p out of the Bandcamp link. Fixed

@popvulture done!!
-
@popvulture dude hell yes! I've been thinking of doing the same thing for a long time now. Your stuff sounds much nicer than mine, but it'd be cool to get it out there. Hows the deal with the bandcamp artist thing?
-
@WhiskeySandwich man, thank you! I'd love to hear your stuff — you should really do it. Gotta say, feels good.
Bandcamp seems very cool as far as that whole thing goes. There isn't any sketchy legal jargon or anything that feels like they might secretly have ownership over your stuff (like it can creepily seem with FB/Insta sometimes), plus the money stuff is pretty straightforward. You can charge however much you want, and the fee they take is reasonable. Plus they have Bandcamp Fridays sometimes when they waive their fee.
The coolest thing I've found so far is the analytics component. Lots of detail on how people play your songs — do they listen to the whole thing, do they skip certain tracks, etc. It's useful.
Mainly I just wanna get out there and play some solo acoustic shows. Despite having been the lead singer in bands for years, I find the idea of getting up there by myself to be pretty damn terrifying. This is a step one kick-in-the ass to get me to do it.

@popvulture dude, i like it. its good chill stuff and you've got your sound together. My stuff's just iphone recorded dirty instrumental noise layered on free Garageband. I just want it to exist somewhere besides my phone and i'm pretty tech (and musically) illiterate. I dont care about generating money or fans. Do you pay a subscription for an artist-account holder?
-
Nope, it's free — there's a paid version that gives you more features but I haven't opted for it yet. Might someday, but I don't see any need for now.
I think phone recordings sound pretty fantastic sometimes, just gotta try to make sure you're not getting too much intruding noise from unwanted sources like humming air conditioners or whatever else. A lot of times whatever room sounds you might get can make things feel more real. I can't tell you how many times I cut out a lot of ambient sounds from my recordings, only to have my girlfriend tell me it sounded sterile and that she liked it better with the squeaks and scrapes.
-
@popvulture yeah, it's def tricky to record well, even harder to play when you're nervous about recording, and dont know music. like me. lol
But, nice work on that, you've got a good project going, i'm psyched for you, and motivated to get my own moving. thanks!

@WhiskeySandwich I really appreciate the kind words, man! And re: recording, we all start out not knowing anything. It took me a ton of trial and error to figure out what I know so far, and I still have a long way to go. It's worth digging in — best advice I can give is to just give it a shot and never be afraid to fail. Hardly anyone would judge you for it, and if they do, fuck em.

@popvulture Giving it a listen right now... I like it!
