@Steve That's awesome! What a cool way to keep a piece of your kid's childhood with you. The tattoo artist did a great job keeping that childlike charm. Tattoos don't always have to be complex to be meaningful.

RE: Barcelona (ES)

Anyone been to Barcelona recently? Yes, I will be visiting Sagrada Familia and also might visit Camp Nou (a FC Barcelona fan here). Anything else should I consider? I am looking for things on Tripadvisor. I saw this thread and decided to ask here also. Any recommendations are welcome..
Sagrada Família is a must-see attraction in Barcelona, known for its unique architecture by Gaudi. Apart from this iconic site, Gaudi's other notable works like Casa Batlló, with its dragon-like scales, and La Pedrera, with its distinctive stone facade, are worth visiting. Additionally, lesser-known but equally beautiful buildings by Gaudi include Casa Vicens, Palau Güell, and Torre Bellesguard. When will you be traveling to Barcelona, @mhussy? I think your trip to Barcelona will not be complete without a soak on Barcelona’s city beaches that boast a 5km stretch of coastline.

Thanks for the reminder, @mhussy. I just got excited with all the helpful responses I got from this thread. I should take my time and plan this trip carefully. Thanks again for all your help!

@danyhearty I would say yes, but it always depends. Temperature should be around what you have mentioned, but I have been lucky and 25-26C in October. Water temperature should still be ok, around 18C. But yes, its not July/August sound and heat, so definitely bring some warmer clothes.
I hope I will be lucky with temperatures between 25°C to 26°C as well. You make a good point about being prepared for some cooler temperatures, just in case. Thanks for the tips on what to expect weather-wise.

RE: Portugal (PT)
@Dmart Do you think I can still enjoy the beaches in October? I’ve noticed average temperatures ranging from 19°C to 21°C, depending on the data source. I’m planning to visit the Algarve, and I’ve also read about the beautiful Porto Santo Beaches on a small island in Madeira.
@mhussy While researching Monsanto, I stumbled upon some lesser-known gems—Peniche and Monsaraz—that are equally breathtaking with fewer crowds compared to the popular spots. I got these destinations from this article https://gowithguide.com/blog/tourism-in-portugal-statistics-2023-the-ultimate-guide-5600
And of course, I'm eagerly anticipating tasting pasteis de nata and immersing myself in fado music!

They look good on you, @Graeme. The frame would probably suit a tinted prescription or Transitions lens.

Évora is a pretty cool place to visit. The Chapel of Bones is hauntingly awesome…..
Óbidos is another easy day trip from Lisbon.
I love your suggestions, @Sir_Cuffs-a-Lot. Chapel of Bones looks awesome in photos, it would be a marvel to see it in person. I think Portugal should advertise Óbidos and Monsanto more to tourists.

RE: Portugal (PT)
@mhussy I only just heard of Monsanto now, but upon checking, it is popularly known as "the most Portuguese village of Portugal". This is definitely worth checking out. I am also into hiking, and October would be good weather for that kind of activity.
@endo These places on your map surely piqued my interest, thank you for sharing. Most interested in the Initiation Well and Santa Justa Lift.
@Dmart Do you know of a restaurant where you can enjoy fado music and pasteis de nata at the same time? Sending my thanks in advance!
@mclaincausey Your pal is really lucky to be an expat in this beautiful country!

Portugal (PT)
Hello everyone!
Planning a trip to Portugal next year, and I'm particularly excited about venturing beyond the bustling city of Lisbon. I've stumbled upon some valuable insights in the Lisbon-focused thread https://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/topic/13776/lisbon-pt/9?_=1707894321749, but now I'm eager to hear about other hidden gems and must-see destinations beyond Lisbon.
With roughly 10 days to explore in October, I'm looking for recommendations on charming towns, breathtaking natural landscapes, unique cultural experiences, and of course, delicious local cuisine!
Here are a few questions I have been meaning to ask:
-
For those who have explored Portugal beyond Lisbon, what were your favorite spots?
-
Are there any hidden gems you discovered, like charming villages, breathtaking hikes, or unique cultural experiences?
-
I’m definitely going to try pastel de nata, any other must-try dishes or regional specialties we shouldn't miss?
-
Are there any festivals or cultural events happening around October?
-
Any insider tips on transportation, accommodation, or navigating different regions?
I'm open to all suggestions and would love to hear about your Portuguese adventures! Thanks in advance for your tips and advice.

RE: Luggage Bags and Packs
I have been using my Jansport Driver 8 for the past 6 years. Durable and versatile luggage bag, the only downside is its weight as a backpack.

RE: Watches - another OCD problem
That’s a stunning watch you have, @jeffrx. I have a small wrist and I like thinner watches. I used to own a hybrid smartwatch from Fossil, but now I wear a simple (and cheap) digital watch from Decathlon.

RE: Our Cars (dream or actual)
That’s an awesome car, @Heavy_blue! I have not owned a car in my life, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not dreaming of having one.

RE: This Blew My Mind!
@EdH said in This Blew My Mind!:
@danyhearty I don't think they realised that. The tech was very new at the time and I expect they thought it was generating text based on a search, rather than just operating as a glorified predictive text generator. I was in charge of writing our workplace's policy on Generative AI and the case of these two was very instructive.
Incidentally, I got ChatGPT to do a first draft and it was generally very good and came up with important clauses that I had not thought of. Honestly, it was good enough that I could have sent it out as it was if I wanted a summary "don't do x, y, or z" kind of policy, but I wanted to enhance it with a brief explanation of why each clause of the policy was in place. Definitely a useful tool to get a draft down on paper.
@EdH That’s very interesting to hear about your experience with writing a policy on generative AI using ChatGPT. I agree that generative AI is a powerful and innovative technology that can help us with various tasks, but we need to treat it more as a draft wherein we still need to verify its accuracy and also put our own style of writing to it.

RE: This Blew My Mind!
@EdH How could they trust ChatGPT without verifying the sources? ChatGPT or any AI is not a reliable research tool.

RE: Tattoos
Wow, what an amazing tattoo! I only have a couple small ones myself, and the idea of that level of pain for a bigger piece makes me a bit hesitant. But it's evident from your tattoo that the finished product can be truly eye-catching. Kudos to you for your bravery and dedication in getting it done!

This beer is from Brunswick.
Where are you and your family from @danyhearty ?I'm staying in Norway, but my family and I are originally from the Philippines. Some family members moved to Canada.

RE: What's your favorite Beer?
I love the taste, but love them even more because they are gifts from family.
