One from an account of the last days of Hitler and the third reich written by the eminently qualified Hugh Trevor-Roper. He refers to Juvenal (ancient Roman) when describing the facile idiocy of Nazism and Nazis and how it came to wield such influence. Of course the quote can apply just as readily to current events as those less recent..
"yesterday the village pierrots, today the arbiters of right and wrong, tomorrow keepers of the public latrines"

If it's not too late on what guitar to buy allow me to chip in. I'm a lefty and learned (well, learning!) with a right handed guitar. Honestly, it has never been a problem and as another wise poster said you're gonna strum with your right while the left stretches, shapes and eventually skitters up and down the neck. I've come to adapt to the right handed world and a lot of the time a lefty turns out to be the supreme being playing right handers at their own game. Alternatively you could buy a right handed guitar, flip it to the left side and rearrange the strings…
Good luck with it and practice, practice practice!

Hi. I'm looking for some feedback on how BiG size as I'm interested in a pair of Samurai 610lx they have on sale. I'm usually good with a 30 in IH 666s and indeed have a pair of BB ODs in 29 that are on the money. Even though the sizing chart on the site is reassuring I'm trying to forestall and issues I might not be aware of. According to BiG they measure 30.5 in the waist which, if true, would suit me just fine.
Would appreciate advice from some experienced Sammie strutters!

As I understand it, the hotter the soak the greater the shrinkage. I'll leave someone more expert than I to explain the 30 degree threshold however personally I'd have no qualms about turning the dial up to 40. As a sidebar I always soak in the bathtub….

Yeah, I've had 18oz 666s and the 02s. Don't be afraid of it. Get yer measurements right (measure an existing pair the IH way). Giles and his team are really helpful and the 18oz denim is really lovely stuff.
Oh and sabregirl is absolutely right, apples and oranges.

Pure lust here too footandmaff. I can't justify or afford (well more the second one cos I can handle the first) but this is singularly my most desired jacket.
Make sure you post plenty of pics so I can live vicariously through you…

The 666 cut is definitely my favourite. It's fits right in all the places it's supposed to. Anyway, am treating myself to a new pair of jeans for my birthday (I'm nice to myself like that sometimes) and I don't know where to start. Once upon a time back when I bought my first pair of IH it was a choice between the 634s, 666 and BBs. The business has come on so much in such a short period of time that opting for the 666 is just the beginning.
There's so much to choose within the cut. I really like these though and the 666 21oz and the ducks. I like the Rivet and Hide collaboration too. The definition of first world problems of course but I'm like a duck in thunder when it comes to choosing. Oh…the UHRs ain't half bad either. Oh for the simpler times when you decided 666 and that was it. Choice made!

Lol…or you could do that. Looking all set for the winter on the footwear front!

I'm a total boot noob! I wear Adi Dasslers finest three stripes whenever I can, then I've got an old pair of generic steel caps for working in and an old pair of donated hunting boots for hiking/cabin trips and so on. The only casual boots I've got is a pair of black, lined Clarks that cost about $200 that I've had for autumn/winter use the last three years.
I'm painfully aware that I need to up my boot game. I'm not quite ready to splurge $800 on some of the badassery available here. I'm just not sure I love boots that much (yet). So I'm thinking something more "entry level" that cost around $400, like Red Wings or Wolverines. They need to be able to tackle rain and not be useless in ice and snow. Lining isn't a must as woollen socks are boss.
Here's the question: Based on the above, which boots should I buy?
Definitely consider Oak Street Bootmakers if you're heading down the $400 path. I have a pair of rough out service boots that look and fit beautifully.

One could also posit that in the absence of handling the goods in person then it is not possible to determine the quality inherent in them and associated value. My personal experience with Iron Heart goods is that the quality is rarely equalled and I know that descriptions and photos are never a substitute for the tactile.

That is a beautiful jacket. Well worth the wait. Enjoy!

Black is black but OD is more interesting, particularly the texture and the way the light can change their appearance ever so subtly. Only you and other denim aficionados will notice of course. I'd advise getting both though. Christmas isn't far off and Santa says you've been a good boy
