ALDEN

Oh, I did not know, maybe I should kop them. I need a new pair of black suit-kind of shoes.
Well, the questions is what sort of shoe you have from Alden in 10.5 BD which fits you well. If you´d tell us, we´ll tell you if this pair above will fit you or may not
I´d take em (because they would fit me, i´am a 10.5 BD Barrie/Trubal so 11BD Aberdeen fits great as well) but I do think that a black cap toe has to be made of cordovan because I don´t like the small creases of calf. just my 2 cents.
-
I have a pair of 10.5 alden indys (truebalance). And yeah, I should look for cordovan too, as I have a pair of calf tan wingtips which has very small wrinkles, not sexy bulges.
well, to have it said: the pair above would fit. but to have that said either: good choice on not buying..

comparing the alden 403 and 405, is the Horween Chromexcel that much better as compared to the full grain waxhide leather?
Also, am I right to say that the main difference between the 403 and 405 is the colour tone and the upper sole?
i'd prefer the lighter colour tone of the 405, but prefer the chromexcel of the 403. mmm.

Alden Indy (or any type of Alden boots)
size 9.5 or 10 or 10.5
please PM me if anybody here want to sell this item…... -
i like chromexcel though it can´t compeed with shell cordovan of course. actually i would not buy someting else from alden (grained shell, yeah, but thats impossible to find though)
the indy boots are cool, buy what you like. two tips. i prefer the blind eyelets with speedhooks and make sure to get a pair with 360° welt stitching (though this is much more important than the hook-question)

Just brought my 405's back to Alden of New York to send out for repair. The stitching is coming apart on the top of the boot, speed hooks are all bent, and sole is splitting. The boots are only a month old. Tried to have them give me new boots but, that didnt work out for me. Hopefully will have them back within the next two weeks. All I can say is I beat the shit out of my 2 year Redwing's and they are in much better condition then my 1 month old Alden's.
-
derivative666 that is shame when you spend so much on an item. i will say we have been warned by a certain Lord in this thread about his experience with the Alden folks.
just glad i haven't been in that situation. really sucks

I tell you, Alden Indys (and I am going to say this out loud and probably piss a load of people off) are feckin shite. I had 2 pairs that were both so badly built, neither of them survived 2 weeks. Alden´s response to this, was appalling, effectively saying I did not know what I was talking about and that there was no quality issue. And to make matters even more laughable, the retailer I bought them from recommened that if I wanted a pair of boots for hard use, I should not get another pair of Aldens- I will never ever touch Alden again and cringe when people extol their virtues.
Sad but true.

Indies and 1000 miles seem to be really hit and miss on quality.
I got one pair of 1000 miles and the heel came apart after a few days, wolverine got me a replacement in less than a week and I've beat the shit out of them over 12 months and they look fantastic.
Similar deal with my old indies ( Which the 1K miles replaced ) had two pairs that didn't last for more than a month of use here in regional / rural Australia. First time the toe stitching came undone and the second time the welting was really shitty and once I wore through the stitching on the bottom the sole came undone so I just left them and cut my losses.
Next pair hopefully will be shell cordovan service boots from viberg.

My 1000 miles are actually falling apart right now (bought in april/may), the heel-construction is worst with my pair.
My Aldens on the other hand, are holding up perfectly so far.
I suspect I'll have to go with a pair of White's for my next pair. Have not seen any Vibergs that really catches my eye yet.

You are not the only person I've heard this from. I decided to use my Alden's as a "dress up" boot because I'm pretty sure I would have the same problem. If i could go back in time i would have gotten Tricker's or White's.
