Does anyone have the inside scoop on how the new DC4 is coming along?
Does Daniel ever check in here?

Love the place, I've been visiting Berlin three times a year past few years.
Here's some tips that I can remember:
Great photography gallery C/O Berlin
http://www.co-berlin.info/Nice vietnamese to pop while shopping in Burg & Schild and 14 oz
http://www.monsieurvuong.de/And a MUST visit every time is a pizzeria run by italian punkrockers
I Due Forni http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g187323-d886780-Reviews-I_Due_Forni-Berlin.html
(they also have two more of these restaurants, Il Ritrovo in Friedrichshain and one in Kreuzberg)Great japanese restaurant Sasaya in Prenzlauer Berg
http://sasaya-berlin.de/White Trash is the place to get some beer and good food
http://www.whitetrashfastfood.com/Alpenstück was nice
http://www.alpenstueck.deCocolo was recommended by Daniel of DC4 but didn't have the time to go there on last visit
http://www.qype.com/place/362605-Cocolo-ramen–BerlinOn sunday, you should visit fleamarkets in Mauerpark and Arkonaplatz

Yes Berlin is a damn fine city.
I would not recommend the Due forni. Service is crap. They throw the pizza at you over the table, forget your order and do not excuse themselves for it. The worst was back in 2006 when they refuse to serve French friends before the football world cup final. So, no I do not recommend the due forni. Bad thing is: their pizze are not bad.Really good Italian but pricey (for Berlin) is Al Contadino sotto le stelle on the Auguststr in Mitte. No pizze but real Italian food and stunning pasta.
For food I recommend Dolores in Mitte (Rosa-Luxemburg Str.), probably one the best burrito you will ever eat. They also have Anchor steam beer from SF to top it up.
Good Japanese food is hard to come by in Berlin, it is not Düsseldorf or Paris… but give a try to Tabibito in Neukölln.
For shopping, DC4 should reopen next week or so, I think, on the Torstrasse in Mitte. They have a lot of good stuff coming: IH 25oz. and PBJ 24 oz., but that is too heavy for me...
Manufactum is a nice store with good old things almost exclusively made in Europe or when not in developed countries.
14oz. is worth a visit, nice atmosphere, although I find their sell-force could be a lot better in the sense they tell you something fits you when it does not just for the sake of selling.
They also are not that regarding with made in china and all. They base themselves on quality not on where the stuff is produced. For the same price you can get an IH shirt made in Japan as an RRL made in China...Hope it helps the visitors. Have fun in this beautiful city in which I have the luck to live

...Don't forget to mention that Manufactum are carrying a Viberg collaboration in HH this fall!

Hipporaven, excellent post, thank you! Can you recommend any good bars in Prenzlauer Berg? That is where we are staying, my friend's apartment is around there.
I've just looked and the weekend I am in town, Berghain line up on the friday and saturday are crazy good… blackest ever black crew on the friday and then sandwell district on the saturday.

Try the bird for burgers and steaks…also good for a beer.
Am Falkplatz 5

The bird is really good! Has been for years. Unfortunately because of its success, I advise you to book like a week in advance if you intend to go on a week-end and do not want to sit at the bar (even there it is always full). They book a table three times in the evening 18, 20 and 22. Pick-up your choice. Or go during the day on saturday and sunday it is more quiet. It is worth the trouble of booking though. They have Chouffe beer, which is rare in Germany and goooooooood.
Alternative in Kreuzberg: Try the Henne close to Oranienplatz. Chicken at its best with kartoffelsalat, no bullshit. On week-end book also in advance…
Prenzlauer Berg... will reflect on it and ask around. Not been going out there for ages. Kind of a quiet place nowadays with families and all, nice for a coffee during the day but eveningwise... maybe the white trash?
Best is to go to Kreuzberg: Schlesisches Tor or the Graefe-Grimmstrasse area. Or Friedrichshain.
I am so out of these trends. Will get back with info from people who know these things.

Leaving tomorrow, shame about DC4 not being open yet. Foxy, I'll pm you when and if I get my timetables sorted, haven't had time to plan anything yet. Will be staying in Prenzlauer Berg (my mom has an apartment there) and I'm crazy about the vietnamese food thet you can get at Van Hoa for instance on Stargarder Strasse.
Will definitely check out Manufactum this time too and probably Burg Und Schild and 14oz as well just for fun. I'm going to dedicate at least half a day to the Deutsches Historisches Museum, I went there last time but only had a couple of hours to spend so didn't get to see all of it.
I might have a few Hefeweisse as well

Yes! I do not know Viberg, but manufactum is carrying a lot of real good shoe brands: Heschung (from Alsace in France) or Dinkelacker (made in Budapest, Hungary), all handmade and that last for good 20 years with the right amount of treament and respect for the good work. Although I guess these brands are less fashionable than Viberg…
Anyway it is worth a visit and trying many pairs never harmed anyone. -

Passthestripe here are some bars in Prenzlauer Berg (in addition to the bird):
- Wohnzimmer (Corner Helmholtzplatz/Schliemannstr.)
- Go around Helmholtzplatz and neighbouring streets to find different bars. I can recommend a Japanese sushi place if you feel up for it: Sasaya on Lychener Str.
A nice place apparently is also on Marienburger Str., Nr.10: Sorsi & Morsi (http://www.sorsiemorsi.de/sorsi.html)
This is according to the people I asked one of the places to be in Prenzlauer berg. Now for what it is worth…Hope you enjoy your trip!

Thanks dude, appreciated… only just over one week to go!
I guess there has been no news on DC4 re-opening?
