Y’2 Leathers….
-
It’s no secret that this forum is a hotbed for a beautiful leather jackets, so I’m kind of surprised that Y’2 doesn’t have a thread….but here we go. I think for as long as I have been buying IronHeart I have wanted a solid leather jacket. I’v looked at a ton of different brands and leather options but I didn’t want to buy black because I’m didn’t feel like it fit me. I came across Y2 through standard and strange and fell in love with their indigo and persimmon dyed horse jackets. After a bit more deliberation, I had two pieces incoming
First the KB140T…
Fresh out of the box this thing smells amazing and a stiff as hell
^an hour of suntanning on a 104* dayThe fit (size 42)
I went with a 42 so that I would be able to wear it over an ultra heavy flannel. The shoulder range & motion is probably also better than I would’ve gotten with the 40. The leather is still really stiff and hard to button but I can feel it loosening up a tiny bit. The hour of suntanning has already yielded some pretty dramatic results and should tan nicely. Apparently this leather is so photo sensitive that they sew them in near dark.
I haven’t received my second piece yet but hoping it will be here soon.

Wow man, I think you nailed the fit. Exceptional. I'm glad it worked out for you so well.

That suits you big time.

@Anesthetist What can you tell us about the fit, finish, and leather quality? Who would you compare it to out of the leather that you've seen and owned?

To be completely honest, my only other leather jacket was a MF Campus in lamb. It was beautiful but too light weight and fit me poorly being that it was boxy and too short.
This jacket feels like a completely different animal…almost like comparing 25oz to 14oz. Like XHS, getting it buttoned for the first few times is a workout….even getting the collar down is tough at first.
Fit wise it is exactly as I expected and stays true to a modern Type 1…. narrow, boxy, broad shouldered, blouse front, and simple panelling. Shoulder ROM is snug but I’m hoping it will loosen up a little. The P2P allows for a denim shirt or UHF but looks ok over a tee shirt. I think it will be a versatile piece in that regard. I wish the sleeve and length were another 05-0.75” longer but I knew it would on the short side.
Finish is good, I’d give it an 8 or because I have found a couple loose threads and one spot where the leather isnt uniform at the hem. You cant see it and would never notice it but at the price it stood out. On the positive side, I love the stitch puckering at the hem, placket, and blouse. It looks awesome and keeps the jacket from looking too new.
Materials: The lining is a cotton drill and the sleeves are a slick nylon. Both feel like quality fabrics of substantial weight and durability. The rivets are copper and are a nice contrast to the steel? or iron? donuts. Of note the donuts are all riveted on straight…the patter matches on each one. Neat!
Lastly, the leather is just plain fecking gorgeous. It smells amazing and is very smooth with a subtle grain. I think this is a 1.3mm hide? Not sure how that translates into ounces TBH. I think it will break in pretty readily and seems to set quickly after a light misting from a spray bottle. I plan to continue to give it time outside so it darkens before fall. I am very excited to break this thing in and have been wearing it with my Patagucci baggies all day

That's a great jacket @Anesthetist and it looks great on you. I hope you get as much use out of it and you intent to.
I also wondered why there hasn't been a thread for Y2 on here with how many high end leather companies are represented on this forum.
I've had my eye on this jacket on eBay for awhile. I love the simplistic design, the longer body and the olive color with contrast buttons.

That’s a lovely jacket but a bit pricey on the used market and probably too small for either of us. Style wise though it would suit you well I think.

So I don't get to enjoy it until Christmas but since I know where my wife hides things…[emoji3]

An update on the kakishibu… this guy darkens incredibly fast

@Anesthetist that type 1 jacket is so sick. I’ve been eyeballing that thing myself. Absolutely love the color. Here’s my personal dilema. My particular skin tone and hair color I fear won’t go well with the color. I know this lesther turns an almost orangish caramel color as it evos. I’m pale skinned red head. Not sure this would look so great on me. Since you own the jacket and have a first hand account…any thoughts on my sitch? Def looking for a nice leather jacket. Will be my first. Maybe black is best for my attributes.

Mizmazzle My jacket is quickly changing from a light tan to a deep caramel and I hope it keeps getting darker and darker. Next IH order I make I need to buy some mustang paste to keep it supple after all the sun tanning I’d done to it. I assume this will darken it a little as well.
As for your complexion, that’s a tough call. Part of me says if you like it then who cares!

Such a bad ass leather.
Maybe I’ll start going to the tanning salon. Bronze myself and the jacket!!

I will add that black is easier to match than tan natural (or kakishibu). I have a limited number of shirts that work great with this jacket and some that are just ok. I still love it and really the only thing I’d change is narrowing the shoulders by a hair.
