After 5+ years of searching, bidding wars and housing market swings, my wife and I finally purchased a hobby farm. The horses are coming home!
If I'm on here and posting less in the near future, It's because we have a shit ton to do to get our house listed, sold, and ready to move into the new place.
A few pics of the property. 12+ acres mostly pasture, a 4-stall barn and a really well taken care and updated horse setup (the giant barn to the left is the neighbor). We can shut the gate at the end of the driveway and be fully fenced in to let the horses roam about if we want.
Prepare for more pictures of horses, chickens, new hobby farm owner mistakes, and whatever other animals my wife brings home while I'm at work.
Excessive rain has a stretch of about 500 yards of our trail flooded anywhere from 6” to 2’ deep. The horses love splashing through it.

Earlier this week I wore my new Bravestar indigo sweatshirt and the 888xhs. Dealing with a crap ton of crocking from the sweatshirt.
@Go-For-Chill That looks like a perfect billiard room.
@tody I have my wife to thank for most of the purpose, joy and motivation to achieve this goal. I am "consistently content".
Me: we have a farm, let's relax and enjoy it.
My wife: let's gets goats and llamas and build an obstacle course for the horses and put in a sunken greenhouse to grow produce all year round and a big garden and an addition on the house to host larger events!
keeps me young
@motojobobo The horses eat hay to stay warm and we free feed them above the netting in their hay hut when it's this cold. They also grow really fluffy winter coats and that keeps them warm. Additionally they have 2 lean to's at our farm that they use to shelter out of the wind.
This is our first winter at the new farm so it's been a massive goal reached to have them in the backyard so we can keep an eye on them without having to drive to their previous boarding facility.
Last night I checked on them at 10 P.M. and it was -40F wind chill and neither of them were shivering.
We have horse blankets for them but don't use them unless necessary. The most important thing for horses to stay warm is to have a dry coat. The worst time of year for them is in the spring when they have begun to shed their winter coat and we get a cold rainy day, like 35-45F degrees. When their coat is wet they can't stay warm and then the blankets come out, preferably before the rain comes.
@scooter It's not even laughable, it's downright dangerous to be outside.
@scooter It's been crazy here in MN just next door to you too. -20F this morning trying to keep the chickens and ducks warm and their water from freezing has been a challenge. Finally you and I get some reprieve over the next couple days.
I will take the plunge and join in on the denim day on Thursday in solidarity with your school fun day.
@Karol It's it very similar. They make a button in liner too for colder weather, but there are great weatherproof outer layers on their own.
