i was actually looking for the comparison on one of the member who posted it.. cant find it..
he had the 301 and the 555-1 i think..
that'd be me. i find the 301 a bit roomier up top (not a huge amount) but then more fitted below the knee due to the nature of the taper. on the whole i find the 301 a slimmer fit, but that's just based on my height & build, a taller person may have a different experience. my 301s are still my favourite cut but the difference in relation to the 555 is so minimal for me that i almost consider the 555 a selvedge out seamed version of the 301.

different angles i know but you get the idea. have only worn the 555's a few times now but they'll be in pole position soon

i'm a 30 in the 301 & 31 in the 555.

301 is a true taper, 555 i would consider a slim straight
the 301 cut is uniquely slim below the knee while remaining comfortably unslim in the top block because it is tapered from the outseam (hence the lack of a selvedge edge)
the 555 and other slim straight cuts that retain the selvedge edge are only tapered from the inseam, the outseam has to remain straight, so to achieve a slim lower leg the top block also has to get slimmer
