Does samurai have a cut similar to the IH 634 that still has a 36"+ inseam post soak. Been looking at the s5000vx and looks like the 17oz denim would work but really like the look of their 21oz. Denim and not finding any conclusive info as to what a size 30 waist inseam ends up at after all shrinking is gone. Any help is appreciated fellas, I'd like to stay 19 oz plus but no less than 17
-
all pairs of Samurai have an inseam of around 36" after soak/wash, no matter what waist size. The 710 has the longest inseam of those (most of the time it ends at 37"). always keep in mind, if the pair has a higher rise and you keep your jeans always at the same spot, the rise will also affect the length.
check here for further information and some measurements:

MY 5000VX 21 oz has an iseam of about 36". This is also the cut that's most similar to 634s, the 710 comes with a longer inseam but is slimmer and has a higher rise than the 634.

Thanks max and b_f, (I actually have used b_F's samursi guide for both pairs of sam's I have purchased now, so a big thank you for the effort!).I went with a s5000vx 17 oz. sized down 2 as I have read these stretch a good deal in the waist and this thigh measurement would also be just a bit bigger than what I wear in IH 634. Now the wait is on…...
-
Ugh.. Just measured my 634 as I haven't in a while and my 30's meaure 31. Ordered a 28 and worried I might have mis sized now… Trying to contact Gordon to switch to a 29 before they ship out. Damn it!
****Contacted BiG as soon as they opened and got the order swithched to a szie 29 15th anniversary s5000vx. Can't wait!!! And props to the crew and Gordon for putting up with my ridiculousness and changing the order last minute. Felt like a real jerk to have to do that but I am rather finicky when it comes to sizing.
-
that's definitely a better choice to go with the 29!
-
Almost went Samurai when I got my 634s. I'm obsessed with Japanese culture and those samurai on the patch are very compelling, aside from how great their jeans are otherwise.
-
Yeah I was really nervous of trying to size down 2 especially after I saw my IH's had stretched to 31 it would have been uncomfortably close and I think they would have ended up too low rise for my taste even if they had worked

This doesn't surprise me - Gordon is a champion. I have quizzed (pestered?) him about numerous things in the past, and he will bend over backwards to help.
His customer service is right up there with Giles'.

I'm probably not the best to answer, but did purchase them due to the patch. Construction and materials top notch, few novel details. The main difference between them I've found is the Samurai's fade WAY fast. I don't feel like I'll be wearing them in 2-3 years time, like I am with IH.
-
^well, the new IH fabrics (23 oz SE, 25 oz) fade as fast if not quicker IMO. And it depends on which Samurai fabric you look at. But compared to the standard 21 oz denim from IH, Samurais fade faster. But the bigger difference to me is that the denim has different character, more slubs and irregularities. Plus cuts, that are more retro than IH. Add the sanforization process on most IHs and you have what makes the difference to me.

Very good calls. Samurai's remind me of Sugarcane in terms of both slub/irregularities and retro cuts. For sure they have their time and place, but if I had my time again I wouldn't be wearing a pair in the office, I'd be wearing IH in the office and Sami's on the weekend. My next office denim is going to be IH-666S; unsanforized, but more regular :). Both have their place

especially sizing down on an unsanforized pair of jeans. but the waist will stretch back out to raw measurements and is able to stetch at least 1" beyond the raw measurements
-
^^good choice IMO. The more regular and smooth looking IH denims are more suitable for the office (I'm wearing Samurais at the moment, though :P)
