Yeah been wanting this make up for awhile.

Yep. I have eBay send me notices whenever White's lists something with "10" in the title. 90% of the time it's "10in height" not "size 10". Even so, I only get notices about once a month.
Not that I need more boots…

Looking for some a advice/opinions - I'm thinking of buying a pair of White's Nomads - looks like they come standard with a single celastic toe - my only pair of White's are BHs, which I got with a soft toe (no celastic) - and I am quite happy with them. I prefer a lower toe profile on my boots - I use the BHs (and will use the Nomads) on the motorcycle (as well as just kicking around) and want to be able to get under the shifter easier. I have some Red Wings that I don't like on the bike because the toe is too high.
Does anyone know if Bakers will do a Nomad with a soft toe? Anyone ever heard of someone doing this, or seen it?
I really love the Road Champs and trying to mimic that look - never seen those in-person either but it looks like they have an old school, lower toe profile - maybe a soft toe? I'd actually spring for the RCs if I thought they'd fit - I wear a 12.5 in White's and the RCs only go up to 12 as far as I can tell.
Once I get over this hurdle I can focus on the specifics of the build - I am thinking either all-brown CXL (to mimic the RCs) or a black and brown combination.

Can't help with the Nomad, but it might be worth asking MF about the RCs. Just love mine…

Bluegrass,
Check this out. http://supertalk.superfuture.com/index.php/topic/140583-shoes-that-look-better-with-age-2012/?p=2878209
Another dude in that same thread says the celestic toe flattens out nicely.
This is without a toebox

BLuegrass- Zip Stevenson can remove the celastic or steel and pretty much turn any boot into a soft toe if that is the issue, it can be fixed

Did you read my post? No need to "fix" anything. He should be able to order them with a soft toe unless they stopped doing it for some reason, which I doubt.

Yes, i did read your post, but he mentioned other brands, such as the red wings he already owns which can be given a lower toe profile, as well and I was just letting him know if he had interest in anything he can always have it handled by Zip.

Thanks guys. Urb that thread was a treasure trove of info, much appreciated. And that flat toe Nomad looks good, but not a lot different than the worn in celastic.
Tat, as I recall you have relatively big feet like me - what size are your Road Champs and what size do you wear in Wesco and White's? I wear a 12.5 D in White's (perfect fit) and a 13 in most others. Just wondering how that translates to other brands I'm not familiar with.
I called Baker's and talked to someone (forgot his name, not Brandon or Kyle) and he was steering me toward Wesco Boss with a "Patrol" toe - he said he likes Wesco for pull-ons better than White's for various reasons, incl. more custom options.
…just what I need more options.
-
I think the main issue with Wesco is the buckles. I may be wrong but I think they only spec butterfly, no roller. I don't understand that, even my shitty ass Harley and Frye engineers from high school had rollers.
I'm PMing you something about the boot Tat got.

So thinking about ordering another pair of boots in about a month. Looking for black boots that I could wear to the office at a business casual dress level as the red dog bounty hunters are taking up most of the playtime wear.
So far I'm thinking Tricker's Stow boots (dainite sole) or maybe some White's Semi-dress, cap-toe, close trim…. or however they would be the most dressy but no all leather soles, maybe a 1/2 composite etc etc.
Anybody with any insights or pics of 'dressy' semi-dress boots?

Just got a pair of White's Retro Oxfords in from Baker's. Here's the pics and specs below. One thing to note, I measured and these seem to run a full size larger than a true Brannock size vs the Semi Dress boot which I feel runs about a half size larger than true to size. Unexpected, but that's what I found. These came out to $550 which is more than the boots, not sure why that is (fewer sold perhaps?) This is my first foray into the French Calf leathers.. and sure enough it is thinner, shinier, and works well on the oxfords since it looks a little dressier. And yes, these have the 1/4" lowered heel. Here are two quick crappy cell phone pics:
