John Lofgren (Speedway)

Awesome Snowy, thanks! Continuing to be a great mod

Someone just ordered the last black size 11,5 @ Speedway shop so I guess I'll have to wait for the next run, bummer…
what's your size in your latest Viberg Boots mate?…
UK10,5 D which makes sense as I measure a US11,5 D on a brannock device the consensus on the Lofgren engineers seems to be to go tts, so it could be the safest bet, but there's always some exceptions to disprove the rule so it seems… Let's see what Tat and Mac's experience will teach us...

I've seen a couple of posts on other forums that also support TTS. A dude that was a UK8 wore a US9 perfectly, I think a couple of others. I (and no doubt Tatman) will of course rush to get fit information up here ASAP.

Absolutely fellas as soon as I know you will. Just keep in kind my foot is narrow, this is one of the biggest determining factors in engineers as wider feet tend to stay out in the front if the boot while narrow feet tend to slip out a little easier creating more heel slip.
-
thanks for the answer Tom!
you guys really making it hard as feck to find my way into the world of engineer boots though and what pair to get as "the first" (angry in a positive way that is!)
White's, Viberg, Wesco, Lofgren, Mister Freedom…god damn it ain't easy! ^^
Agreed, I like the wescos for the black fire leather and think they might be a bit more rugged than the lofgrens so my thinking was that they will serve a great looking purpose in the winter and bad weather as well as allowing be to keep one boot a solid black for a more "dress" look I suppose. I can't wait to get my lofgrens looking like VEB's.
well which one are you talking about?

the review of the boot from vintageengineerboots:
-
You all are killing me. I am keen to jump in on some Engineers, and now my head is swimming. White's, MF, Wesos and now JL&Co!?!? But need to get the sizing sorted out. I'm 12.5 in White's. I wonder if I could manage a 12 in the RCs or Lofgrens. Have to see what some folks who have them say.

These buddy:

I just really love seeing all the engineer enthusiasm that's sparked around here lately!!! Glad you all like them as much as I do!!
-
Love this shot too:

Allow me to further complicate things by suggesting you take a look at Sugar Cane/Lone Wolf's engineers. A bit cheaper but they sure don't look it

The things that make me love the Lofgrens are:
-
Goodyear storm welt, it's really substantial and has pretty functional accent stitching. This is a heavy duty feature, I don't think it's common on engineers.
-
The profile in general, I like the shaft width and length, the last, the toe, the heel, the double leather sole…
-
The buckles are cool, and judging by VEB's boots, age well (though who knows if his are original)
-
John seems like a good guy and he provides great service and believes in what he's doing
-
I love vintage rubber soles, but this pair I got for winter and bad weather. The Vibrams look vintage and are figure 8 stitched, but are modern nonmarking rubber soles, more durable, probably more comfortable too
-
CXL in a decent thickness (maybe 2.5mm from the pictures?). Love it or hate it, this is a known commodity. Evo pics in this thread show the promise of this leather on this boot
-
Triple and double stitching all over the upper, seems overbuilt–which I love... double stitched straps, nicely hand stitched shaft seam
-
IMO the PERFECT length for the ankle strap.
-
-
I am also a fan of these Lofgren blue suede shoes, I've been eyeing them for some time.

X2 on the blue suede shoes… If those get produced in my size I Will have a pair

thanks for the introduction mate, but what i dislike is the bulky toe box…i really love the RC's, the Lofgren's and all other engineer boots with that flat toe box. looks way better imo and not as bulky/clowny as some do...rest on those is ace though!
-
Yeah, that's why I didn't go that route, though I suspect with wear it collapses a bit
-
It will collapse over time… Most celastic will. The determining factors are how sturdy it is made originally, how much abuse (shifting on motorcycle promotes this collapse), as well as humidity getting to the celastic and eventually causing it to rot. However the initial profile dictates the profile after this takes place as the celastic gets close to the welt it becomes stronger and inevitably will hold up. the lofgrens toe is less bulbous allowing a very nice collapse. Mr. Freedom RCs collapse almost immediately even further than the lofgrens because of relatively zero support in the toe. Where more modern boots cn suffer the sane collapse but due to the already overly bulbous toe will never reach these sleek profiles but there are skilled craftsmen out there who can practically make any boot have a similar profile with a bit of magic elbow grease.
This waiting business is for the birds!!! Can't wait for these to arrive!
