I'd look into doing some pool work before you go.  Don't waste time in St Thomas learning shit you can learn in a swimming pool…

Thanks! Definitely not Singapore though, water here is next to shit. I dive in Indo a lot. I like diving in Manado. There are some pretty good dive spots around there and a really nice resort called Cocotinos. And their customer service is as good as yours!

I would recommend you to at least take a Padi Open Water course. They're pretty straightforward (IMO) and can be done over the weekend. There are too many accidents involving untrained divers and even experienced divers. Safety first!
