Self Edge x Iron Heart = SEXIH22-633s

Thanks #23, I'm going to start wearing mine pretty soon I think. I have so many other pairs at the moment but I'm really looking forward to wearing these a good bit.
Also like Chris said just follow you're normal unsanforized soak routine. I just gave mine a 45 minute luke warm soak and hang dry. Usually my method.

I tried on a pair of 34s and while I was able to button them up without too much difficulty, they just wouldn't have been comfortable. I tried on the 36s, but the leg was way too large for my liking. The fabric is amazing and I'm really disappointed to be missing out on these. Oh, the woes of being a size 35.

Thanks for the input, guys. I was curious what "loomstate" actually meant so I did some additional research prior to seeing your replies.
I found an article on RAWR last night that briefly explained the other finishing processes (besides sanforization). A lot if seemed to address uniform appearance of the denim and initial comfort.
-
Post soak, and a couple days skating in them to break them in.
The first thing i noticed with these is how comfortable they are after the soak; especially when i compared these to my XHS's. Is that with all unsanforized denim? or maybe its because i dramatically sized up?
None the less, these are awesome, and I'm super stoked to have em, I'll try to update every month or so.

no. not unusually. fit aside: i think that with most denim, comfort really depends on how the cotton is processed pre and post loom (sanforization being only one variable). I haven't found much detailed info on IH's manufacturing processes, as Haraki seems to be pretty tight lipped…but something seems to be very different with denim IH produces above the 21 oz. level.

I was out of commission for work today with a scratched cornea. By early this evening, after being in the house all day, I was getting a little stir-crazy, so I decided to get the initial soak of my 633s out of the way.
Plus, with wifey out with friends, I thought it was the opportune time to partake in weird denim rituals.

Figured a couple of fit pics would make the thread more interesting.
Just a little leg skew on this model.
A couple of quick thoughts on the jeans- the denim is phenomenally rigid. It's really going to take a while to break in this pair. After two hot washes, the fit is really good and I expect them to be even better after the denim softens up and starts to hang more naturally. Overall, I like the pair a lot, but there is one thing that I absolutely hate- the front pocket openings are stupidly small. I did a quick check against my 634s, and it looks like the front belt loops were moved about 3/4 of an inch away from the fly, which cuts the size of the pocket opening to the point where I can barely get my hands in them. Terrible alteration, in my opinion. Guess I'll just have to live with it and see if I'll adjust.

nice fit on the jeans Houston-Slim-Chris.
that tee shirt & those boots are the break out stars of the photo set.
-
Yep; love both of those, myself. I'll try to get some decent pics of the SDA shirt in the right thread. It's chainstitch embroidered, so it's extra cool.
-
I'm discouraged by the pockets. Love the fit.
-
Chris, that pair looks perfect on you, almost to the point that I wish got these instead of the raw 301. Oddly enough it l ooks like you have the same wild leg twist like my '22-301s. I agree with you on the denim, it is some tough stuff.
-
Look good on u Chris. I personally hate leg twist, drives me nuts. Which is one of the reasons i didnt go for these and now u say the pockets are small?? That def counts me out
-
Fit looks good Chris!
I never manage to take any fit pics because I don't really have a good camera for it.
But, it's interesting that you mentioned the pockets because I actually like the size of the pocket opening more than most jeans that I own (and I have too many jeans haha). I felt like they were pretty easily accessible from the start. -
To better illustrate my complaint about the pockets, I did some comparison shots between my size 34 633S and my size 33 634S. Faded 634S on top in all pics (obvi).
We'll start with a straight ahead front shot, with the fly on each pair aligned. As you can see, the beltloops are much farther from the centerline of the 633 than they are in the 634.
Here, you can see how the coin pocket had to be reduced to fit the smaller pocket opening.
This pic shows a bit better how the opening had to be re-cut to accommodate the new belt loop placement. You can see how the upward curve toward the waistband is sharper in the 633.
I'll concede that it's not a massive change, and I'm sure some people will love it and even more people won't care about it at all, but for me, this is bad. The only bad thing about these jeans, in fact, which may be why it bugs me so much- it keeps them from being fantastic.
-
I see the value in a little more space between the front belt loops but I don't think it's worth compromising the pockets.
-
They're less impressive than it looks. I put up a couple of pics in the IH-634S thread. I even put on the same shirt and boots, so the people with too much time on their hands can compare the fits.
