If the President is flying into the airport at the same time as you, you're gonna have a bad time. About to land in Austin and the pilot says,"Sorry folks, Air Force One is comin in. We're going to Houston."
Thankfully, we just got gas and took off again.

It is miserable. It is really cool to see the thing take off though.

He and the First Lady were here yesterday. Apparently, their motorcade left hours of traffic snarls in its wake. Fun times.
-
Thanks, Obama.

Most of the time he takes Marine One around DC, but sometimes his damn motorcade jacks everything up here. I always know its the Presidential Motorcade because there's always an ambulance at the end, and usually guys with guns hanging out the windows. They block every cross-street for 5 minutes before and after, and you really see just how big the bubble is that POTUS lives in.

I saw Bush's (the second one) motorcade come through Austin years ago and it was quite the spectacle. The amount of limos, suburbans and helicopters was mind blowing especially with the northbound and southbound lanes empty.
Welcome to Texas Urbs, I look forward to grabbing some drinks with you! It would be even better if Chris could make it.

Just a quickie. I will start a proper thread in the Sport section soon.
5 weeks ago, I decided to enter the Solent Swim Challenge. That's a 3 mile open water swim (between the mainland and the Isle of Wight) in August. It's in aid of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. I have just found out that I have been accepted
http://www.ellenmacarthurcancertrust.org/
Given Paula's situation and the fact that I'm not getting any younger and am seriously unfit, I thought it would be a great thing to do. And killing two birds with one stone, I can help myself, but more importantly give to people who need a serious cheering up.
Trouble is, I didn't really know how to swim, let alone do front crawl (freestyle) and although I am a pretty strong Scuba diver I am a shambolic swimmer. I managed 300 meters the first time I went to the pool 4 weeks ago, all breast or back stroke.
So I have been frequenting the local pool and trying to get better. I managed a mile in 46 mins (Paula did the counting, so no
cheatingmiscounting was involved) on Wednesday.I have a series of large challenges to come over the next few months. And I want to raise a load on money.
I'm going to start things off. Between now and the swim on 17th August we will donate USD5 to the Trust for every sale we get over USD200 - so, get buying you feckers.
And believe me, I'll be after all of you for help, every 10 cents will help
-
Happy to donate over and above any purchases made! Let me know how!
