My wife (Pam) is a fully qualified, university educated textile designer, (so it obviously makes sense that she works as a buyer for a toy company). As a hobby and small side business she makes some home wares for people and sells them, things like cushion covers, curtains, quilts, bed runners etc… and she really enjoys it and wants to do more of it. Recently I was looking at a heritage style blanket by a well known manufacturer and she tells me that she would like to make things like that, so we have been looking for material for her to use for some time now with no success.
We need a blanket weight wool or wool blend which is ethically produced and not unfeasibly expensive, some of the Scottish wool mills charge upwards of £200 per meter, any suggestions or pointers would be welcome as we are struggling.

Is she interested in recycling old army blankets to create new ones? That's the least expensive option I can think of. Especially the olive drab US army issue blankets are easy to find for cheap. And it would have the added benefit of being environmentally friendly. Doesn't get more ethical than that.

That's not a bad shout to be fair, depends where the fabric is made I guess.

I did exactly that after reading Sabergirls post, found some great looking heavy wool blankets for £14 each which were ripe for customising…...made in Bangladesh

Thanks guys, the Facebook link sells ready made blankets…..we're on the case. Need to put on a pot of coffee, this could be a late one.

We've found a couple of local fabric warehouses and mills locally to visit over the weekend, should make for an interesting field trip if nothing else.

Is a 2014 Forum tshirt happening?

That stinks, I think 2013 sold poorly because of the short sizing issue.

No plans. 2013 sold poorly…..
That's too bad. Glad I got in on last years. I bet I wear that more than most due to the shorter length. Oh well.
