I was an heavy smoker (40-50 a day, Marlboro soft pack). Then, about ten years ago, I quit. No particular reason. No cancer, no cough, no nothing. I had just broken my balls of all that dirt and bad smells.
The day before 50, the day after 0.
I agree 100 percent with Harley Dave: the great difficulty in quitting is an invention, a kind of superstition. No withdrawal symptoms, no panic, never lost a night's sleep. After 2 days I no longer thought about cigarettes. To quit is EASY. if I had known, I would have done much earlier. After 10 years, I sometimes dream about smoking. "What an idiot", I think in may dream, wearing the burning smell. Then I wake up, and smile.

^couldn't agree more! I believe it's actually anxiety caused by fear of withdrawal symptoms that do most in. The mind is a tricky thing which few seem to have complete control over (myself included). This goes way beyond vices too, as any fear, fetish, or disposition can become just as crippling when thoughts are out of check.

Great advice HD JDL and George, I think strength of mind is important.

Smoking ends on August 9th. That is all.

Ha ha, can't say it entered my thinking but I'll take it. I go on holiday on that day so I just figured it best to stop on a week where I'll have other stuff to occupy my mind

Thats great Gav
I quited smoking after 17years heavy smoking on 31 dec 2008 one day to the other half a year after i quited drinking alcohol from one day to the other. Since then nada mas.
I have not a problem when people drink or smoke in front of me though

Thanks guys, it's a weird thing but I go all day at work every day without even thinking about smoking. This tells me that my smoking is a psychological dependence, which is easier to deal with for me.

Quit day is today, I will read this thread for inspiration, decision is made.

^Congrats brother, best of luck with conquering that demon.
