IHSH-34 Heavy Hairline Hickory Western Shirt
-
The IHSH-07 is one of my favorite IH shirts due to both the fit and the fabric. I got the IHSH-34 expecting it to be very similar but for some reason it doesn't seem to fit me as well. I got out the measuring tape and found that compared to the 07, the 34 is 1in longer in the sleeves, 1.5in longer in length and 1in larger in the chest. The shoulders are exactly the same. Although the measurements don't seem drastically different, the extra material in the sleeves and their extra length are bothering me a bit. Perhaps the shirt will soften up and drape better after a wash but I'm not sure if this will make a big improvement. This is only the 2nd time (the other being with the IHSH-23) that a medium hasn't fit me perfectly.
Does anyone have an opinion regarding the fit (see below) or an experience with this shirt that they would like to share. I do really like the fabric and the buttons on this shirt and of course all the details conform to the typically high IH standard.

DrPat, I also have both shirts and (unhelpfully I know) my experience is basically the opposite of yours. I always felt the IHSH-07 could be a little snugger and I am actually really pleased the the Hickory seems to be cut in that way.
I have found the shoulder, length and sleeves to be comparable to the 07 but the chest and bottom hem to be a little closer around my torso.
Sorry its not the same as your scenario, perhaps it is just a case of the variance in size you will get with short run, boutique brands.
If its any help the fit you have with Hickory does not look whack. Hot wash might help.

+1. Perhaps a hot wash and it may shrink a bit. Let us know how it turns out.

I actually think the sleeve length looks a tad better on the 34, but I agree about the body and length being better on the 07. As others have suggested, a hot wash and tumble dry may shrink it up a bit so that it better matches your preferences.

Thanks for the responses. I have considered soaking it in warm water but based upon my experiences in soaking the 23 at 60deg I don't expect drastic results. I could try at 90deg but I'm scared this will cause the blue to bleed into the white stripes. You can see in the pic below that the 07 fades a bit in high-friction areas which I interpreted as meaning that the dye is not 100% permanent. Is this shirt indigo or non-permanently dyed?
-
Well, indigo does not actually soak into the yarn in the dying process. Unlike other "dyes", it oxidises onto the surface. That is why in an indigo dying process the yarn is dipped multiple times and bought out of the indigo to oxidise inbetween dips. The number of dips (amongst other things) determines the thickness of the oxidisation. Indigo faes in high friction areas because the oxidisation is rubbed off. So in essence, all indigo is non permanent. Various post dying process can be applied to the fabric to increase the permanence of the coating, but it always eventually fade. I would supsect that the fabric the 07 and 34 have been made with have no post dying processing.

Thanks all. Just as Dr Pat mentioned earlier in this thread, the IHSH-34 is a little bit biigger than the IHSH-07 in the length and arms. Not so big that I would size down, but almost. Sure whenever i give this thing a soak/ wash, it will constrict to the perfect size! might actually do that tonight… Oh and it will easily be one of the most worn shirts I own, no doubt!

namenes is the man! Well studied. Great forum member and otherwise decent fellow. Although his driving skills are to be debated… Especially from the trunk! Oh and just in case people were too lazy to follow the link, I am 6'2".

I've been wearing mine all day, I love this shirt! I go back and forth between a xxl and xxxl in IH shirts. For this shirt I went with a xxxl and am very happy. I'm like having a little extra room because it is such bullet proof material, but hey that's just me.
