Unfortunate name….
Ha ha, if only they'd gone for 'Hop, Burns & Black' instead…
(great place, btw - sells beer, hot chilli sauce and vinyl - total heaven)

Quick question on the 555N's.
I own a pair of IH X R&H 666S. I bought a size 31, and they've broken in perfectly. After a bit of necessary stretch, I'm really happy with where the fit has landed.
I'm considering buying some IH 555N and would have normally bought a 31 again, as I would assume the sizing is quite similar. After reading the numbers and a few reviews, it seems like the sizing is different on these, I.E:
- 666S size 31 = 32 in waist
- 555N size 31 = 31 in waist
Given the difference, would you still recommend I stick with a 31 as the rise is higher on the 555N, or would you size up?
Also, I notice that the 555N is described as having 1" stretch, but 0.5" shrinkage. Does that mean that in the end, the waist will still land at 1" larger than I started with (assuming I only cold soak them - and not very often)?

Hi!
First things first. You're off to a good start because you used the tables. Always use the tables. Actual measurements will vary not just between cuts, but also between versions of cuts (sometimes between runs as well but I understand this is something IH strive to avoid so it's happens rarely.
Secondly, generally, the measurements are as is, now. So soaking before wearing will lose you .5. You're new starting point will be 30.5. With wear they'll stretch an inch to 31.5. That being said, I asked G about the stretch with this denim and he got 1.5 on a size 33 (I think, check the thread). So you may well get more than an inch if you need it.
I's advise measuring your 666S as they are after breaking in. I suspect they're around 33 inches. If you like em there you might consider sizing up on the 555N.

I'd go same actual waist size, the rise won't make a lot of difference. If you buy tag 32 in the 555 I think they end up at about the same size as the 666
Yeah, i remember you suggesting there is a little more stretch here than the 21oz.
Another caveat - Giles always knows best [emoji6]

Huge thanks to Haraki-san and Giles. Looks like I should pop-by Rivet & Hide to swap my 31s for 32s!
This bit of info in particular was super helpful:

Hi
I have recently purchased some IH-555n. I know these are sanforised but will shrink up to 1 inch in the leg and 1/2 inch in the waist on my first wash. I understand they will then stretch up to an inch in the waist. My questions are should I wash them before wearing or wait until they have stretched before washing? Also am I likely to loose a lot of indigo in the wash which will effect the contrast in fading with wear? Hence should I wait to wash and wash as little as often.
Thanks

Soaking a new (sanforized) denim helps to bed the constructional stitching, so i think a (minimum a cold or better a warm) soak should be done before wearing
-
A cold soak, even on sanforised denim is never a bad idea. Soak first then wear. The problem with wearing them a lot and then washing is that your honeycombs and stacks will be an inch too high after wear because of shrinkage. My advice would be a warm soak to take out all the shrinkage, then wear the fuck out og them. They'll stretch out to fit you. A warm soak without agitation shouldn't affect the indigo or future wear patterns much. Just wear them like you hate them and they'll look boss.

@Giles is this denim the same as the TW634N ? I have both and denim looks different, this one is stiffer and warps are more grey than tw . I really like both of them but just for now …
-
Never wash tw and They really are different , 555n are hairy, stiff and look darker but maybe because of the more grey warp .Have you compared them ?

Damn, I was helping a friend order either the 777 (sz 34) or these (34) and both are out of stock. Any 34's around in either @Giles ? He's already rocking 3sixteens and I'm trying to get him hooked on the IH bug.
