i want them to be relatively light and easy to take on and off - essential in Japan….
I was looking hard at the burlap for the engineers, it's lovely, but it would be limited to dryish, warmish weather wear.
That on/off issue is very relevant here too. All boots come off at the door in all homes and many places of work. I had to seriously work on my attitude to socks when I moved here. They're on show a lot more than in the UK.
But so I'm clear these are a personal purchase rather than a potential IH build? They look very good.

You have time, but it bumps up the cost a lot….
I thought I might have But I have thought pretty hard about rough out two tone shafts already and although I think they look great they aren't what I want for my first custom Wesco's. In addition to being sturdy and resilient I want them to be somewhat traditional.
You should know that I'm doing the sums and a pair of Wesco's added to the annual budget won't put that great a dent in the kids college fund

What's the sizing advice for Wesco's then? If I size down to a US8 in Redwings is it advisable to do the same with Wesco's?

Those are awesome @Clint_D - very little love for big-footed on the 2nds page
@spitfiredealer I suspect it's the same - red wing skips 12.5 so I wear 13, and I and can do 12.5 or 13 in Wesco. I would probably be 12.5 in red wing if there was such a thing. but i'm sure you may get a better opinion from someone closer to your size…
