IH-666S-21 - 21oz Selvedge Denim Slim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo
-
I'm planning to get this denim but I have some questions around the thickness of this guy. It says 21 0Z Extra Heavy. Would that mean that this is going to be hard to break in? My first pair of IH was the 555 N which is 17 oZ. Has the thickness got anything to do with fading? I have always felt that my 555 N's rear rise could have been a centimeter and a half smaller and this denim seems to be a bit smaller on the read rise, though I'm yet to try one. So the question is, should I go for this or the 666s in 14 oZ?

@Joe I have the 555 jeans in the 21oz and the 17oz natural and,for what it's worth, I found the 17oz harder to break in than the 21oz. I think most would agree that for a fabric that is 21oz it brakes in relatively quickly and easily. There's probably a reason for this that I'm sure has been addressed many times on the forum.

Cool! So breaking in the 21 oZ on the 666S is not a problem.
I had a look at the measurements and the comparison between the 555N and the 666S 21 oZ and I find most of the measurements on the 666S to fit me much better than the 555N excepting the waist. I have a 32 waist on the 555N which is 81.3cm compared to the 32 waist on the 666S-21 which is 83.8 on the waist. The 555N just fits me right on the waist, though it has become a little bit tighter after soaking it. Additionally, it is also mentioned that the waist will increase an inch after wear on the 666S-21. I definitely do not want to get the 31 waist on the 666S-21 as they would be much smaller on the other measurements. Would this 2.5cm bigger waist on the 666S-21 be noticeable?

One final question before I spend the money on the 666S. Should I go for the 14 oZ or the 21 oZ? What do you guys suggest?

I recently bought a pair of the Rivet & Hide collaboration version of the 666s in 21oz and I prefer them to every pair of jeans I've worn before.
The IH 21oz really is lovely from the word 'go'.My white sofa's fucked though.

I,initially, got into Iron Heart for the 21oz heavyweight denim, and to this day it's my absolute favorite. Obviously a very biased answer. A couple of factors that might influence your decision are climate, and wether or not you ride a motorcycle.
I live in a cold country, so thickness should not be a problem. The only concern that I have is how this particular denim fades and fits compared to the 555N at 17 oZ!

The 21oz denim holds its own against any other IH denim, it really is hard to beat. If I could only own one type of denim, it would be the 21oz denim. I'm not familiar with the 17oz, but I do own the 14oz 666's, and the 14oz is pretty amazing denim as well. But if you don't have the 21oz yet, that's what I'd recommend.

I always recommend original recipe 21oz for anyone making their first IH jeans purchase. It was mine, and my pair of 634S is still my favorite pair of jeans, 6+ years later.

I went to a local IH dealer nearby and they only had the 666S in 14 oZ and I tried it. I feel that the part below the knee is a bit wider to my taste. I then had a look at the measurements comparison between the 555N and looks like the knee is slightly wide on the 666S-14 oZ. However, the measurements on the 666S-21 oZ is only bigger by a small fraction than the 555N. So I might try it as soon as I find one in the nearby!

Joe, the 666 is much straighter from the knee down than the 555. So all 666 models are wider from knee to hem. Look at the hem measurements for comparison. If you don't like the wider leg below the knee the 666 isn't for you no matter what denim it's cut from. Try the 777.

I did in fact try the 777 and the 777 was much too narrow for my taste than the 555. So I decided against going for the 777. I would have preferred that the 666 tapers a little bit down from the knee onwards.
I'm waiting for this dealer to order the 666S in 21 oZ and I will give that a try as soon as it is available. Looking at the measurements, the 21 oZ is tad bit smaller than the 14 oZ. Let me see!

I was not able to find a 666S in 21 oZ and I ended up getting what was available nearby. It was Japan Blue 0401 and I sort of like the fit very much! May be I recommend Iron Heart to give us a thicker denim with the fit of JB 0401!

Pretty sure he was trying to buy local, not online.
-
But I got no idea what he might be local to, m'dear.
No worries, to be honest I'd forgotten I'd replied a few posts back already.

@Streetwise:
When it comes to clothes, I avoid getting them online. I prefer to visit a showroom near by, try them on!

You're welcome and I still don't know where you live.
