IH-555-02 - 18oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Jeans - Indigo

They'll stretch. May be wear for a couple of weeks and then warm soak….
Is it heretical to not give an unsanforized pair of jeans a soak? Is this an option?
-
It's not heretical. The downside is you have an increased risk of a thread popping and increased abrasion, but if it's only a couple of weeks that won't be an issue. Also you have to accept they'll need to meet water at some point and will then shrink some (unless your name is Ruedi and you are Swiss).
-
Also the 18 oz denim is pretty stubborn and you'll probably want it to soften up a bit through soaking / washing.
-
Hmm. Thanks for your responses, friends.
I've read in this thread that the knees and the thighs will probably shrink around 0.5''.
The knees and the thighs are already a little too tight for me now, and if anything, they need to stretch 0.5''.
So, in other words, I should probably sell these, right? Or should I try to make them work?

The upper thigh works? They are going to stretch some. If I was you I'd give them a soak or a wash and wear them for a week to see how they develop. It may work out.
Have you removed tags? If so you can't sell as new and the selling price won't be affected much by a soak and a few days wear.

Yeah, I have removed the tags.
Maybe you're right. Maybe I should soak and wear a few days.
Any tips on soaking? I've heard old wive's tales of squatting and stretching in them while damp afterwards to try to create some room in knees and thighs. Any truth to this?

Well, if anybody is looking to buy a pair of size 28– worn once, not soaked-- shoot me a message!

I'd wash them like you, personally generally wash jeans. That way you know they won't shrink more. Squatting and stretching gets you the stretch you'd get anyway, just a bit quicker. I can't speak to the difference wetness may make. There'll be a certain amount of stretch in the cotton, no more, no less. Good luck whatever you choose.

Put them in the for sale thread. I might snag them.
Great idea. Done– and thanks for the tip.

After a lot of time thinking the 555s would be too narrow for me I finally gave some a try and decided to jump on the 18oz raws. They're a little bit too big in the top block still but I've only given them one pretty mellow soak so far (45 mins in warm water with agitation only at top block). I was able to avoid too much shrinkage through the leg whilst bringing the Waist and Rises down some what.
Pre Post
Waist: 38.0 37.3
Front: 11.7 11.6
Rear: 17.2 16.9
Thigh: 13.4 13.1
Knee: 8.5 8.5
Hem: 8.2 8.2
Inseam: 33.0. 32.5Now that they're breaking in gradually I think the next soak will be heftier as I could certainly deal with them being slimmer through the leg as well as smaller in the top block, which I was aiming to avoid initially.

Tommy wanted to enter the next DWC, so he chose these as his weapon of choice

Those are great!

Thanks man, we had them hemmed to a massive 28" to allow him to grow…...more in hope than expectation
