Maybe wait it out for the new cut. Especially if you prefer a tapered 634.

How do you feel about low rises and a relaxed top block? If the answer to either of these questions is "icky" then stay away from the 301S.
I've worn the 666SII and they are brilliant. I'd go for them. Different cut, new denim.
i dont mind a low rise. are you saying the top block is not relaxed? I'm leaning towards the 666sII or the 666s. this is harder than it ought to be. thanks for the input
Here's the link to the new cut thread:

The 301s has both a low rise and a loose top block. If that is your thing then cool, I know some people were turned off by these things.

I'd like to learn about the differences between UHR and XHS IH denim, beyond the 21/23 and 25 oz weights.
I gather the names imply 'ultra heavy raw' and 'extra heavy selvedge'; so beyond the raw characteristic of UHR and the selvedge quality of XHS; are there any other interesting distinctions?
Does anyone have both denims and could comment on pros and cons?
I understand UHR is unlikely to return, so is XHS a reasonable replacement?
Thanks.

The only things they really have in common is that they are both at the heavyweight end of the scale and they are both indigo selvedge. Otherwise their hand, colour, fading etc. are all quite different from each other, and in fact unique from other IH denim as well.
The XHS is much darker in colour and breathes slightly better than the UHR. It is heavy and stiff out if the bag but softens amazingly with wear. Takes a while to start fading but when it does you get high contrast, vertical fading.
The UHR is very crunchy and needs watering out of the bag. It gets very dense and tight after the soak and has a lighter indigo colour than nearly every other IH denim. It then pisses out indigo like no ones business and creates great fades. It's also hairy and has loads of character.
I have the 666XHS and the BB UHR. I love both denims but they are in no way interchangeable as they very have different properties.

Great elaboration @neph93, it not only is informative, but speaks of true denim appreciation. Trés cool!

Does anyone have any ideas about sourcing a high-quality, pure melton wool alternative to a pea coat? Ideally, I'm thinking about an overcoat that is built from heavy melton wool but is single-breasted. I already own a Real McCoy's pea coat and wear the heck out of it in the colder months. This is basically me just brainstorming ideas for alternatives.
Note: I've already looked at Schott, Fidelity and other US manufacturers and all there stuff is wool/nylon blend. I'm looking for something well-made and high quality and don't mind paying for quality and for a manufacturer that produces their goods ethically.
Thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated!

I'm really bummed I missed out on the UHR fabric, unfortunate it will not be made again.
