If you pull up the jeans a tad more, and wear the belt higher, then that'd keep the crotch at the same height as a lower rise pair. If you went for an, ahem, "urban" style with them nearly falling down, it'd be a different experience.
With my 1955S even if I pull them up, they will slide down a couple of inches to where all jeans naturally sit on me, thus lowering the crotch and giving even more room for thighs. Mine came with 14.2inch thighs, btw!

As I can't sleep (the joys of changing continents), I measured my 1955S jeans again, and the thighs have stretched out to 14.5 after 200+ wears (tag 36), suggesting these 888S should stretch a little too. My inferior brand jeans I know I stretched out from 13.5 to 14 inches, and now look like they're painted on when I sit down. Damn you, racket sports and gym work….

I pull my jeans up a tad more on the 888 than I do on my 634's because to me that's the nature of the cut and where they fall and are naturally meant to sit at the waist. Different rises will naturally sit on me at different spots.
BTW, I've also learned something over the past few years. At first I always thought that lower rise jeans were more flattering on the rear and didn't give you the saggy diaper butt look, but now I've learned that a higher rise is actually more flattering on the rear. The rise on these 888's are about perfect for me.

This is one of my main things right here when it comes to a good, comfortable fit for me. I have to be able to sit down in my jeans without crushing my jewels and strangling my thighs. I see a lot of fits on the internet where guys go for a very slim and tailored look on their jeans while standing, but for the life of me I can't see how they can realistically sit down in the damn things.

I gotta say if the thighs don't get tweaked on the second run then I would say the whole point of cut has been missed. I am a 32/33 and 12.3 in the 32 and 12.6 in 33 are not what I would consider roomy thighs….
And I know ask 100 people and get 100 different answers.

And I know ask 100 people and get 100 different answers.I gotta say Layton that I do feel your disappointment as you were really looking forward to this cut coming to fruition. It seems that in actuality this cut, for you, hasn't measured up to your expectations which were, quite rightly, based on the initial discussions / descriptions of how these jeans would fit.

Same feelings here but for most posters in this thread it seems pretty well!!!
Enjoy ya addiction!

Same here. Hopefully the DWC UHR lot comes with roomy thighs as listed in the predicted size guide..

I am talking to Tom san about what we can and can't do.
Unfortunately, (or fortunately, whichever way you want to look at it) fabric production and sewing are very inexact sciences, if you expect it to be an exact science, then you will forever be disappointed.
The UHR denim came about because Haraki was trying to develop a new 21oz fabric, it came out NOTHING like he was predicting or expecting, but our little part of the world would be a poorer place, had he not done what he did.
And in the case of the 888, in terms of being exactly what we predicted and aimed for, we failed. But fuck, a lot of people seem to love it.

In my case it is quite close to my ideal fit. I imagine when the time comes I'll just ask for the pair with the biggest thigh measurement in stock and it will be fine. I'm looking forward to seeing some fit pics from the 36-38 waisted members.

And Giles said next run or fabric(can't remember) they are going to try and get the thighs a little bigger. So give it some time and see what happens. I think we all have enough jeans to last us years to come….and this is a "problem" that isn't detrimental to us as humans, so here's to looking at the future of the 888 cut.

For good reason, it's a brilliant cut, especially for a large percentage of Western physiques.

Interested to see how you get on with them.

Personally I'm happy about the slimmer thigh, but what I want with this cut is for it to be a like a fuller version of the 555 which I love, but is really too slim for me unless I live with a bigger waist. So 13.2" on the W35 should be good. Essentially a slim-ish tapered fit on a chunky body. Anything under 13" is really too tight and over 13.5" and it doesn't suit my frame. Full report tomorrow evening.
