Out of interest, do you shut up the cabin for winter because it becomes inaccessible?
I would guess that and needing to shut down the utilities like phone, electric and water, assuming they're available. If it's cold where he lives then shutting the water down would be necessary to avoid freezing pipes.

That’s why I ask, as a point of comparison. It’s bloody freezing in winter where I live, but having access to your cabin in winter is an important part of the Norwegian culture (lots of winter fun with kids, ice fishing, skiing of one kind or another, snow mobiles, or just log fire and whisky etc). So cabins up here tend to be built where they are still accessible even at -15C with a meter or more of snow on the ground.

my ex-wife's grandmother has a lake front cabin up north that gets shut down for the winter, but it's actually a 2-story house rather than a rustic log cabin. Her uncle usually goes up to shut down the water and put away the dock among other things. The cabin is located at the end of a dirt driveway which is surrounded by trees, so becomes inaccessible when there's snow. Although, her neighbors have actual homes next to her cabin and live there year round. I'm sure it's a mixture for people in the US, obviously due to the weather and location.

Sam is on holiday for the rest of the week so may not check back here - I am pretty sure I would be right in saying that he may even get away with a small for a tight chest fit but that it would be too short. I seem to remember him having a little breathing room in the chest on this M
