IH-526L - 19oz Left-Hand Twill Selvedge Denim Type III - Indigo
-
I'm between a Medium and a Large and I bought a Large 526L and shrunk it down to a Medium, but this was with strong agitation and very hot water. All of the measurements are those of a Medium size from length and chest, etc. It can be done!
@Mr:
Currently toying between one of these after a few helpful emails with Alex or waiting for the 526PJ that’s due out in March (526 with pockets + 1 inch extra length) ::)
What sort of shrinkage have people seen in the length, sleeve and chest? As Giles suggested (0.5” all over)?
I’ve just returned a Medium 526Lod as I wasn’t completely in love with the surface finish (personal taste) but the dimensions on that were spot on if a little snug in the chest. Chatting with Alex he advised going for Medium 526L and soaking it would be the best port of call so I’m looking to see what sort of shrink you guys have gotten?
Did you get much in the way of arm twist with that amount of shrink? The only ‘slight’ thing putting me off the loomstate 19oz is the fact it’s going to be able to twist the second it touches water. Not great for chaps with major OCD

Yes, there was some twist in the right arm but not the kind of twist like a pair of jeans.

I recently purchased this jacket and it's awesome. I gave it a hot soak and hope all the shrink is out. It took some time to break in, it's really heavy duty. I'm getting used to the extra length in the sleeves and in the body, kind of annoying though. The hand and inner pockets are a nice touch add add more every day utility. My previous jacket was 15 oz. Samurai S0552XX and I'm a bit surprised how much more heavy duty this is. I look forward to see the progress of this and try to wear it as much before it gets hotter in the summer.

Looks really good.

I believe there to be no arm twist. My first hot soak was pretty hot, but the 2nd one was probably warm because I used all the hot water. Very light agitation. I don't think there was much shrink, maybe less than 0.5 inch. I don't think the sleeves or body length shrank much, if it did it was minimal. I hope I got most of the shrink out, we'll see when I do a hot wash down the road. The bathtub water was pretty starchy and had some indigo stains when I finished.

Thanks! The jeans are IH-633s straight tapered 21oz, they’re coming up on 3 years of almost constant wear, love those jeans. Starting to get warmer out so I’ve been wearing the jacket a little more, it’s still stiff and heavy feeing, like a nice denim hug. I wore my old jcrew type III the other day while doing some dirty work, they’re not even in the same league.

Received mine - LOVE it! I got the fit perfect.
Anyone have advice on buttoning this thing?! And this is the softer version…
Good ol’ fashioned elbow grease and time. I remember being where you are with mine and it’ll soften up before you know it with some wear. But it could use an IH thimble for the first dozen or so wears! Maybe a new silver thimble pendant is in order?? lol
Seriously though, I avoided buttoning this thing in front of people when I first got it so that I didn’t get any strange comments…I’m sure there were some interesting face contortions on my part!

@Tdre977 - jacket looking good! Which jeans are those? @Stuart.T great fit! awesome beard too man! Both of your pics helped me in deciding on this.
I just picked up the last of this jacket in small - can't wait to start breaking it in.
@scotty thanks for the nice comments. I love this jacket. I'm quite tall so the extra body length is great, yet the sleeves are too long either. Perfect!

@neph93
Is it possible to hem the sleeve of this jacket easily ? I am planning to call railcar today to see if the ca perform alteration. I am interested in this jacket but sleeve length is killing it for meSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The arms will come up a little once you wear it and it starts creasing. You can also just flip up the cuffs.
-
@Mustafa911 you will lose at least .5” when the creases set in like @superfuzz says. Shortening the arms is possible but it is quite a big job. I find all IH type III’s long in the arm for me but I too just flip the cuffs over. I prefer it that way to getting them tailored.
