Samurai Jeans
-
In my limited experience with Samurai, they make amazing denim, cut beautifully. But my Samurai fell apart a lot quicker than any of my IH have done.
Samurai use cotton thread in construction and it failed on me. They do this for authenticity. IH doesn’t worry about that level of authenticity and prefer to use thread that is best for the job.
Edit: just saw your last post. Thread is really quite vital to constructing clothing. All over.

I’ll give you one more example. Samurai’s denim, as lovely as it is, is constructed to fade and age and garner a certain aesthetic with wear. Use it in a harsh environment (as I did) and it wears out surprisingly quickly. A lot quicker than IH 21oz or 25oz. That is just my experience of course, but I assume it has something to do with the thinking behind the design of the fabric as well.

A few more pics of my 25oz 510s

They look alot better in the sun

@neph93 Thanks for the info not quite ready to pull the trigger on a pair just yet. Im going to wear the shit out of my 510s for a bit while i gather info on what will be the best IH fit for me. Idk why samurai would not use cotton poly thread as well

Poly-cotton would be nice but they won’t do it and let’s face it, it’s not the seams that are first to give if you look at the damage people generally need to attend to with their jeans; crotch-blowouts being probably the most common example. What cotton stitches do is they might pop in places like around the pockets etc. and eventually some repair work might be required… But your jeans won’t disintegrate on you cos they used the traditional kind of threads for stitching.
-
You are right, A few stitches broke around the front pockets and a few at the crotch. It was an easy repair for the price i paid, i didn't really think i would have to. Whatever tho shit happens no big deal i guess. Other than that and the twist the 25oz denim is fucking awesome and seems like it is going to fade fairly slow and last a long time.

Of course they will stick to cotton. It’s an aesthetic choice for them and I admire the principle.
I think that for a lot of Samurai fans the popped stitches on the arctuates etc is part of the charm, something I totally understand.
I also agree that for your average school library/office chair/coffee shop/bar user there is unlikely to ever be an issue with the crotch or zip seam failing, for example.
However if I was going to use my jeans for riding a bike or horse, construction, physical labour, hiking etc I’d want to use IH over any other brand, any day of the week. The mileage you get from IH in those conditions is far superior to any other brand I’ve had.
I’d suggest that is due to the purpose the designer envisioned for the jeans and fabrics.

Does anyone else here own a 25oz or any pair of samurais? If so you should post some pics! There isn't enough pics on here.

Ask and you shall receive. Wore these for about six months. They were soaked once when I got them because they were unsanfoized. Besides IH, I only wear these and a pair of PBJ. Anyway, here's the pre and post wash pics
-
@Wlemon i dont see any pictures!?

Is it up now? Also, if you're interested, here's the link to the pair. I think they are sold out, though. https://www.okayamadenim.com/products/pre-order-samurai-jeans-s511xx-25oz-20th-anniversary-selvedge-jeans

I soak them when they got here to do the first shrink. I didn't get all the shrink out, too. When I did wash them, they shrank a lot, but now fit more like they were supposed to I think. I wore them a lot before washing. Not sure how much, but on New Year's Eve, I was the "pony" for all my daughter's friends. That put a lot of wear on 'em.

Sorry brother I didn't really care for mine too much. They got relegated to work pants and have been laying in th the back of my pick up truck since about August. The problem is I have a ton of jeans and I wear the ones I love. Right now I am currently wearing exclusively my 888-UHR pair.
-
I'm somewhat in the same boat as you, @Filthy. I wouldn't say I don't like them, but they are a far cry from IH.
-
Right, I am used to wearing either 21, 23, or 25 oz Iron Heart and pretty much everything is disappointing compared to that. I almost bought a pair of 25.6 oz NBDN I saw that looked cool yesterday. But then I realized that I would just rather stick with Iron Heart. I don't know what or how they do it… but the denim is always crazy soft. I'm addicted to Iron Heart denim.

I have some White Cone denim, too, but I just can't get into it. When they closed, I was happy because it might force some American brands to find a new supplier. (I know that's heresy, but oh well.) Everything from IH seems in a different league compared to most brands. Samurai is good, maybe even great and same with PBJ; however, I just don't think either have the same feel of IH denim or duck fabric. The duck is awesome, too. That's not to say anything about the UHFs.

@BD81 , sorry man they have been gone from my possession for years.
