I don't have much N & F anymore. On the whole, they seem a little gimmicky, but this pair seems pretty impressive. Definitely overkill, yet an awesome weight. I'm curious to see what you think compare to the IH 25oz.
-
I’ve always been curious about the denim, but I couldn’t squeeze into the thighs on those in a million years! 11.75 post soak on a 38? That’s nutty
Yeah the thigh measurements seem entirely unrealistic. What kind of a body type are these supposed to be for? I don’t think the previous run was like this… @twin could perhaps confirm? I too would like a pair just because but if the proportions really are like in the chart, there’s just no way.

All of the fit pics I have seen in that cut seem pretty roomy. I guess I will find out soon.

I own some N&F and the gimmicky stuff does tend to get old. But objectively speaking, N&F do sell affordable denim to newcomers who are looking to get into the selvedge game. I have a pair of 13.5oz indigo selvedge weird guys that I beat the sh*t out of almost daily. I also have a beat up pair of LHT's that need to be repaired. I think their MiJ series looks pretty solid if you're into slubby denim, so they got that going for them. Their button up shirts are dreadful though

Hope you get yours super-soon as I can’t think of anyone whose denim-review I’d rather read than yours. It’s also very nice of you to ”take one for the team” as should things go awry, returning them is at least somewhat easier for you as someone based in the North America. Thanks, I’ll keep my eyes peeled on this thread.

Unfortunately I won't be home until Monday at the earliest. Also that store has that bullshit store credit only returns policy. This is why I didn't buy them back in 2014. But I will let you know what I think asap @Crit_Obs

The 32 oz jeans were safely delivered to my house today. Should be able to get to them by tomorrow. (We got the job done 2 days early). @Crit_Obs

@Crit_Obs I got to the jeans finally after a 14 hour day.
I am both delighted with them and disappointed with them at the same time. Firstly, @sabergirl the thighs on a size 38 are slightly roomier (unsoaked) than my 888-XHSib they are actually roomy in the top block and get very slim at the knee and leg opening. They have plenty of rise to them too. I want to point out that my 888s are tight in the waist and have some room in the thighs. These have an inch in the waist and the top block is looser.
The denim is very robust and also very slubby and has loads of character. Although I don't know if slub is the right term… it's more of a vertical peaks and valleys. The texture is very irregular but very uniform on the inside.
It is quite amazing actually. Very beautiful.
Comparing thickness of hems between XHSib and these..there's definitely a 3rd more bulk and girth.
Now for the scrutiny:
Firstly, the button fell off while I was trying to button them up. I want to emphasize that the waist has plenty of room. The was no strain other than the pressure of my index finger. The just didn't compress the center pin enough. I might be able to mushroom it out more with a center punch and sledgehammer. I will have to see. Or I might replace the pin with a nut and small bolt (holding the button in place. I am going to contact the manufacturer on Monday to see what they suggest.
Next, the sewing is very nice in places and very sloppy in other places. Very sloppy.
There's no vintage sewing machines or techniques in play here. I don't blame them though. The denim is pretty crazy.
I was trying to consider if I was happy I bought them. I guess I am glad to finally have a pair and realize they fit good. I love that they have a zipper. The denim is incredible. But I am so disappointed about the button. It's pretty bullshit for a pair of $550 jeans. I probably would rather have another pair of Iron Heart jeans.
-
@sabergirl do you want me to measure them for you? I don't think they measure them the same way or something because the thighs are roomy…
-
Those really do look roomier than the measurements would imply, @Filthy. I am curious about the thigh, but it’s purely intellectual as i don’t think I would go for a pair.
They look really good on you. I would be bummed about the button, too. Nothing worse than dropping some cash on something and being disappointed in quality.

Yeah I would do an even trade for a pair of regular 25oz XHS 888s.
-
Those things are crazy Filthy. Are you able to move in them? While I'm definitely not defending the uneven stitching or the broken button, as those would both be disappointments to me as well, it is a minor miracle they are able to turn that fabric into a pair of jeans to begin with. I'm sure whoever is sewing the jeans is in a constant battle with the fabric. The button to me is inexcusable though. The manufacturer knows how thick the fabric is, I have to think they could order a more sturdy piece of hardware that would hold on.
-
They seem like they probably would get pretty comfortable after a while. But I had them on for maybe 2 minutes. They were easier to get on than my 888s the first time because the top block is roomy and the leg length is 3 inches shorter. They were stiff enough that the corrugated cardboard tag fell off as I put them on.
-
Thanks a ton @Filthy , tons of good info there. Bummer about the button and this is not the first time I’ve read of something like this happening with N&F jeans, the bright side being that they are said to be very cordial and efficient with making things right.
The sizing issue is very surprising. According to the chart on their site, tag size 38 is supposed to come with humble 12,5” thighs pre-soak; this is clearly not the case here. Their ”how we measure” leads one to believe that they take the thigh measurement the IH way from the crotch seam… Could you check how does your pair actually measure on the thigh? If/when the button-issue gets fixed, it looks like you’ll have adequate leeway to soak/wash these, not having to go waterless as per the original plan.
Thanks again, you’re the man.
Edit: If you don't mind, it would actually be very informative if you checked all the measurements... If the thighs are not even in the ballpark, I wonder how accurate the rest are.

Agreed. Hopefully N&F will make it right

Waist 18.7
FR 12.2
BR 16.5
Thighs *measured at inseam 13.1 measured 1 inch down 12.2
Kn 10.75
Hem 8.3
Inseam is only a 32…It's clear they just measured the thighs across the front and didn't get the extra behind the seam because the denim is so thick.

Oh sorry 38
-
Yeah that's what I thought but holy beep are their measurements off by a mile and then some. :o Thank you kindly, dear sir, your contributions have once again proven invaluable for denim science and the general public alike.
I'm gonna have a bit of 1 on 1 with their CS and see if I can get them to actually measure a pair for me.
