Thought this was a cool shot from my 7 mile trail race this past weekend:
I'm currently about 8 weeks out from Chicago and I'm closing in on peak mileage. This week is 77-78 miles, next week will be 81-82, and the week after that I'll peak at 83-85 miles. After that, I'll drop 3-5 miles a week until I really taper out race week, which will enable me to hammer some big workouts as I approach the fitness peak. I've usually tried to keep mileage fairly consistent for a good 2-ish months, but I'm trying a slightly different approach this time. I'm intentionally holding the workouts back slightly until the mileage starts to drop because I've generally had the tendency to hammer workouts a little too early in the season, and I've peaked a bit early my last three seasons, which is obviously not ideal. Looking forward to seeing how this one goes.

Are you from Chicago? It’s a good course. As flat as can be. Tons of crowd cheering the entire way. Last I ran it was 2015. Marathoning is just too much of a time commitment for me. Only 1/2’s now. Just trying to make those faster. I usually volunteer at the race. I’ll keep an eye out for you amongst the 40,000.

@rocket stylin! Glad I’m not the only one who likes the bright colors. Though I guess my reasoning is somewhat morbid- if I’m ever stuck out there and SAR is looking for me, neon will stick out amongst all the colors of the forest…
@cander49 you are looking pretty effing fast lately. Report back on your thoughts when it’s all over. I’ve taken a different approach to training this year too. Seems to be working so far, with four weeks until race number two, I feel woefully unprepared! -
there is def a safety aspect over here too @neversummer far too many clowns …

I'm in Utah nowadays, but I grew up in MN and my parents both ran Chicago back in the 90s, so I was out there during the race years ago. Yeah, I'm looking forward to a nice fast, low altitude course!

@rocket waywt compression leg sleeves edition:
Zensah sleeves (the good, the bad, and the argyle?), dirty girl gaiters, Salomon sense ride. My last big run before Plain 100, though unintentionally bigger than planned at 35 mi and 9700 feet gain -
Ran 5.6 miles and climbed 3,630 feet to this abandoned fire Lookout. We arrived in the dark at 8:30pm, Stayed the night and ran out the back way 10 miles. My first go at ‘fast packing’ it was a blast! We had Milky Way for dinner and a sunrise for breakfast!

Jealous of @Brock right about now
Running a 5k today. The Two Roads Brewery Shore to Pour Run. I try to do an organized 5k every other week or so. Beer and Philipino BBQ to follow. I just learned that a good chunk of this race is over sand
Woohooo!!
