IHSH-185 airing out and tools atop Coffintop Mountain, west of Lyons, Colorado. Did some volunteer trail work, cutting deadfall, overgrowth, and lining trail with downed trees in places, and rebuilding cairns. All to make a fairly obscure trail easier to follow for the few who know it’s there.

Fantastic post @neversummer . Is this voluntary work? We have people doing this kind of thing throughout Norway but it is normally unpaid.

Voluntary in more ways than one, I’m not even sure if the land manager (in this case the US Forest Service) even knows that this trail exists… however, the local ethos is that the trail users do the work to maintain a trail. So I’m not an “official” volunteer. Just doing my small part! I actually find cutting downed trees and trail maintenance to be quite satisfying work. Really enjoy doing it.
