The (Less intimidating) Watch Thread

My new 40mm Hamilton field Khaki arrived today. Got 20% off RRP from an authorised online dealer. Colour and placement of the date window aren't for everyone. I'm swapping the strap out for a Tanner Goods pass through strap, ordered today at another super discount.

@Giles if you look closely, the date window slightly pushes the 3 numeral out of line with the rest of the numerals. Some watches completely remove the numeral altogether, some align it.
Lots of reviewers aren't a fan of the placement, it doesn't worry me too much as there are more positives to negatives to this watch imo.

Here the date window where it not should be, but I am very very pleased with that stunning watch:
Seiko sbex003
Dramatically over dimensioned but unexpected comfortable
Runs +5sec per day but completely independent of position… -
@Eisenherz that is a solid looking watch. Beautiful.
I swapped out my standard Hamilton nubuck strap for a Tanner Goods single pass through. I think it looks very much better. Really happy with it.

Thanks @Stuart.T . You Hamilton is a very classical watch. With an quite robust ETA movement.
Nice! -
Nice watches gentlemen. My wife gave me a Hamilton Khaki manual as a wedding gift almost 16 years ago and it still runs like a champ. I hadnt worn it in a while but broke it out this past week. Still keeping good time too.
I’ll always have a soft spot for a MarineMaster. I owned the non-hibeat and it was a tremendous daily wearer. I still miss it. About. 5 years ago I was at a jeweler in WV and they had a used model for ~$900. Had we not bought a car the week before I would have nabbed it.

When my Hamilton Khaki failed it was the main spring. Pretty cheap repair.

Before the high beat I owned the spring drive
That is a spectacular watch ultra accurate but you do not hear it working only the flywheel while moving. So I decided to buy the high beat. But these are all limited versions. Soon it will come an 80 hours power reserve high beat Grand Seiko, but also limited and expensive… -

Hodinkee makes a big deal out of them, what do you think about the Mercí watches?

Oh, yes they are an authorized dealer for Merci. But this watch I did not buy from them.
Overall, the design is great and the dial is clean & easy to read. (The only positive things that I can think of haha.)
The price is quite expensive (in my opinion).
At this price point, you might get a better option like Hamilton khaki mechanical.

Thank you for your thoughts. I almost bought one a year ago but it’s very similar to a Seiko Spirit that I own so I passed on it. Their “Grand Pa” model is intriguing but I think you’re right about there being better alternatives for the money.

My ~5 year old Sinn 556A just back from it's first service with newly added H-link bracelet.

Posting here vs the real watch thread as I know it’s nothing special, but new to me Coros Apex. Got it slightly used for a good price off Facebook marketplace. GPS running watches are so confusing. There definitely is no “best” one.
Though it checked a lot of my boxes, I probably wouldn’t have purchased at full retail as I can get a discount on Suunto and maybe some others, which put more expensive watches in the price range I was looking at. Only used it to track my walk with baby today so far, won’t get to track a trail run until the weekend. We’ll see how it does!

For some time, I've been enamored with the Rolex ref. 1655. For a number of reasons, it's highly unlikely I'll ever own one. So, I opted for an economical alternative. Yes, it can be thought an homage. But, at $550, it's roughly 3% the cost of a beat up 1655, and I can bang it daily, without concern for it's well-being…..
