The Real McCoys

@Bfd70 – I know that problem well. 6'6" and 190lbs here. I could wear a medium but I need the length so I buy a large in most brands. With IH, an XL is often needed to get the length. Sizing is tough.
Either way, here's to you winning the lottery

I picked up a pair of Lot.001xx from S&S — I was really psyched about checking these out, but I'm really leaning towards sending them back now. I knew it'd be a trad cut, which I've been way into lately, but the top block is SO billowy it's almost like a pantaloon type thing happening.
I'm curious how much they'd shrink, but it's not a risk I really wanna take. I understand they can come in quite a bit in the waistband but will stretch back out — my biggest concern is how much they'd shrink in the top block, and tbh it couldn't be that much. I got a size 33, and I think sizing down to a 32 would maybe be too tight in the waist after a shrink.
Anyway, debating it but like I said, leaning towards just returning em. If anybody's got any experience with these jeans, I'd be curious to hear how it went for you. The denim looks and feels incredible, but the fit's just really too loose for me, as far as I can tell.

These jeans are going to shrink quite a bit everywhere. It's hard to say how they will fit afterward, much depending on the water temperature and agitation. When I was a kid we'd get them big and wash them hot. (I mean comparable ones, not Real McCoys.) But if you wash them of course there's no returning them. Most jeans once fit like this–-then again Roger Bannister was also the world's best miler and Brando didn't yet look like a hydrogen air ship.

Cool, I figured — it's pretty wild though because I've found all kinds of varying information about how much they shrink. Some people have suggested that the 2" shrinkage listed on the RMC site is because that includes a trip through the dryer, which I am not gonna do (not really interested in that, ever).
I've never had a pair of jeans shrink more than an inch, even on a hot soak. The only time I got any kind of really drastic shrinkage was when my washer taps were accidentally installed reversed and a pair of unsanforized PBJs got a very very hot wash. They were kinda snug to begin with, so they officially became a lost cause. Other than that, they always shrink less than I expect and tend to stretch back out, so I dunno?
Mari and Gen from S&S are gonna get back to me on what they think. My plan is to size down 1, but I'll wait for their advice to make my final decision. I saw Neil mention on a Superfuture thread that Gen had a pair years ago and didn't size down, but he didn't elaborate on how that worked out for him. I feel like that'll be some useful info.

FWIW this is what they look like. Call me crazy but they really feel like Hammer pants haha.

To be honest that's my biggest concern. The waist now is pretty nice but it could be tighter… so I'd be psyched if it shrank down a good bit and then stretched out a little, but not to where it is now. If it went back to this current fit, it'd be a little too big for my taste. I'm thinking if I do end up keeping these, a good hot soak is the way to go, so I can ensure max shrinkage.

Thank you @sabergirl! Every bit of this is super helpful!
EDIT dammit I hit quote instead of modify, sorry for the double post

I think you should hot soak with agitation, or if you can stand it, soak them with your shower head inside-out then throw them in a hot wash cycle, no spin.
You sound way more cautious with your denim than myself, but especially with shrink to fit that feels baggy, I would make sure they’re real wet, then wash in the machine and tumble dry. Always inside-out. It’s the only way to really ensure maximum shrink and no surprises.

Alright, that sounds like a good plan for the washing machine, because it can definitely get really hot. I guess I've always just strayed from the dryer because I'm tall and never wanna lose too much length. I like to be able to double cuff, so I'm usually shooting for like a 34" inseam.
