IH-555-XHS - 25oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Jeans - Indigo
-
@hoppy_IPA @vaquero357 two great 555 fits. Funny story a few years back the 555 was considered too sharp a cut for the XHS denim. Glad that changed.

…broke the 'neph93 rule' and went straight to wash after one week of wear. Washed on cool water setting then spaced out and didn't set to 'delicate' and left it on 'heavy duty'. ???
...they got beat up to be sure but I think its all good. Here's the measurements after the flogging, unwashed new / one week wear, HD wash and drip dry:
waist-18"=36" / 17"=34"
front rise-11 1/4" / 10 3/4"
rear rise-16 1/2" / 16 1/4"
thigh-13" / 12 1/2"
knee-8.9 9" / 8 1/2"
hem-8 1/2" / 8 1/4"
inseam-35" / 34"...tight and crispy but ready for a long haul of wear now!

@vaquero357 - all hail to those who post measurements!

Not a rule @vaquero357 but strongly advocated guidelines . Also, washing after only one week is absolutely on the right side of those guidelines. Wearing for a month or more and then washing/soaking is not so wise imho. Get the shrink out sooner rather than later.
Your measurements demonstrate the wisdom of an initial/early soak or wash. Imagine wearing for a month and having the creases set and wear show, only for the leg to shrink an inch and the top block tighten. All of a sudden the creases are an inch higher and new ones form. Looks weird, feels weird.
EDIT: after re-reading the thread you may be thinking about the difference between a wash and a soak. Again, in my book there isn't much difference between a wash and a soak, both are good options. The presence of detergent in a wash has a minimal effect on things, the major difference is in the agitation. A wash pretty much guarantees it. This is a good thing in my book as it helps get ALL the shrinkage out, which again should be the main goal.

Well got my first pair of IH XHS today, 555's love the fit a bit of work to get them on (buttoned) but feel good. They are a bit snug at the waist but I know that will stretch. I read to wear them for a few weeks then do a soak. What is everyone's guidance on this, I believe a soak would make them very tight right now in the waist. The thighs are what I was worried about and they feel great.
Just looking to see what everyone else on here has done with the XHS fabric, LOVE THEM!!!!

The waist will get back out to where it is now and then little more after a soak. You’ll probably lose half an inch but gain an inch or even more. It will be uncomfortable for a while, but these jeans are challenging.
I say get it over with, endure the discomfort and get in your way to enjoying your jeans, but the “wear for a week or two” option may mitigate the discomfort a little.

Thank you! I am guessing as well about 1/2" in the inseam and a bit in the thigh with the soak. From what I read all will stretch back with some exceptions in the thigh, is this right?
Also for the soak is it cold / warm for good fit and hot for loose?
THANK you for the help here I don't want to make a mistake as they really are bang on right now so thinking coldish soak.
Again thanks.

1. I am guessing as well about 1/2" in the inseam and a bit in the thigh with the soak.

1. May be closer to an inch in the inseam if they are unhemmed
2. The inseam will not stretch back, waist, top block, thigh and knee will, when subjected to use.
3. Heat, agitation and length of immersion all affect how much shrinkage you get. The more of each the more shrinkage, but that is finite, it will not go on for ever. I have three pairs of XHS and now do 60C, for 1-2 hours with some agitation at the beginning. Never got more than 0.5-0.7” in the waist.
4. Are you planning on washing them? If so then any shrink you don’t get out now will go then. If they fit right now, then they will be fine after all the shrinkage is out and you stretch them back. It will just be uncomfortable for a while. That is part of the deal with the XHS, it is not denim for beginners or folks who can’t tolerate a little discomfort. That discomfort passes with a bit of work though. If they are too tight now, they may well be too tight after you stretch them out too.
Try and get fit photo’s up pre-soak. The more experienced of us should be able to spot it if they going to be too small.

Thank you again! Wore them all day yesterday and they did stretch out a bunch. I washed them last night in warm water for 40 mins. I did have them hemmed but left 1/2 as assumed shrink. I will provide before and after measurements. I have been wearing unsanforized for over 5 years and a number of different pairs, need to understand this is a much different animal. Really appreciate the help and will post when completely dry.

Apologies if I was condescending, but I think you’re right, it behaves in it’s own way. It’s weight and stiffness when new makes it more of a challenge to work out.
I’m pretty sure people have given up on pairs of XHS that actually fit well because the heft and rigidity of the denim makes it seem like they are too small. If you pay your dues it is quite forgiving in the end.

post wash (keep in mind I had not put them on) they are on now and have some work to do but feel it's the right fit would not want them more loose right out of the wash

R - 10.9

Hi a.aron, thanks for the info, it's really useful.
Did the back rise change much?
Was that after a soak or a wash? What temperature?
Thanks and good luck with the jeans - they'll look amazing, I'm sure.
-
That was the front rise, the back rise lost around 0.5 inches. Not sure the exact temp but in the neighborhood of 50C. This was in a front loading machine for 40 mins. Also a cold rinse and no spin. Then I hung to dry in the shower. I would also note that I soaked them inside and out in the shower prior to the wash with warm water. Wash was normal (not delicate).
Hope this helps.

My thumb is nearly bleeding but I finally got them on
They are quite tight in the waist but I know they'll stretch out up to an inch. Do you think this fit looks ok?
Just checking that I can actually move a few inches in these things…
-
I agree with @Kasi –- Enjoy
-
Perfect how they should be.
I agree with @Kasi –- Enjoy
I agree with these fellas ^ as the fit looks pretty much spot on.
-
Look like a good fit to me @going_to_battle
I used the NephcarjackTM technique to ease the waist out slightly and it worked a treat… not so very well on my black 21's
still hanging in there!
