Hi Guys, I found a great fit with the 555-01 in size 29. I was now looking for something close to that in the top block but with a slightly wider knee and a lower back rise, this 777-142 could be the answer. Should I get the same size? How much are these going to strecth with wear? How different is actually the topblock compared to the 21 oz 555?
-
I can technically wear a smaller size in the 777-142 than in a 555 cut
Due to the knee being larger and thighs a little roomier, but make sure the waist isn’t too small if you slide down the chart. The 142 denim DOES stretch, but not as fast as the 21oz and not quite as much.
The top blocks are completely Different - the 555 is straight up with a slightly flared waist (which is super comfy) and the 777 has some curve to it - which I think makes it a bit more comfortable of a cut.
Hope that helps!

As usual @Appfaff is entirely correct. It is worth emphasising his point about the top block however. The 777 and 555 are very different in design. The way the leg tapers is a major difference, but the top blocks are the biggest one. The rise is one thing but the shape is much trimmer.
As for sizing, I'd advise you to ignore tag size and look at something with waist measurements a touch bigger than the listed measurements for your W29 555's. Sound about right @Appfaff ?

What's funny, is that the waist on the 555 does not correlate to the rest of the fit in the slightest.. especially not in the big 3 versions (my IGW-101D are a different story altogether), so the waist measure was big compared to the thighs and knees. However, @neph93 's point is ENTIRELY correct - because the same WAIST measure on the 777 when compared to your 555 will give you extra room in the knee, thigh, and maintain the curved top block and slightly lower rise.
Good Example:
555-03 Size 36 Measures Won't even button up for me:
Waist: 38
Back Rise: 16.5
Thigh: 13
Knee: 8.85777-142 size 36- My favorite cut and easy to wear
Waist: 37.5
Back Rise: 15.25
Thigh: 13.385
Knee: 9.25 -
Hi all - just got my first pair of IH jeans. The 777's fit great all throughout, but are pretty tight on the waist and hips. Curious if this stretches out and is just uncomfortable for the first few wears or if I should size up?
My last pair of raw jeans was in 2014 and I wore the heck out of them…..just now retiring them and forgot was new raw denim feels like.

Congrats on a great pair! Yes they stretch (a little over an inch in the waist) but it takes some time - probably a good 20 wear days.. where as I can get the 21oz to stretch 1.5-2inches in 2-3 days.

Thanks! Should they feel super tight in the waist when first breaking them in?

1.5-2 inches in the waist? I was happy with the brand new fit of the 555-01 21,oz. Its a bit tight in the waist, I can take 1 inch of strectch, but the rest is just a big snug. I dont think I shoud size down becouse the knee is pretty slim, but maybe get a different cut if these are going to strecth that much in the waist, what about the other parts?

Thigh and knee won’t stretch much at all. Maybe 0.2”. The waist going to 2” is not usual and normally happens with a very tight starting point. 1-1.5” is more normal. If yours are “a little tight” to start then you’ll be fine. That is exactly how they should be.

Man, these are hard for me to fade for some reason!

Hey!
I didn’t manage to immediately share my impressions of the new 777S-142. I won't write much now. The package traveled across Russia painfully for a long time, plus the tax was torn off at the customs due to the excess of 200 euros. The fucking Russian government no longer knows how to rip off its people. Well, okay, fuck this government. My calculations for the size turned out to be correct and I made the right choice with the 777S-142. They sit just perfect. So far I only wear them around the apartment, they are now like my home pajamas. Haha. It's cold outside while I drive in XHS. A couple more weeks of spring and I will already be alternating jeans.
Gave a bunch of jeans (including these) a wash, so here are some pics in daylight
I just love the texture of these…
