Go out of the house with them damp and it is on you [emoji1]
There is very little difference in comfort pre and post soak, assuming you can afford the half an inch smaller waist band and marginally slimmer leg. If you can’t afford it you bought a size too small.
A bit of water will not radically change the hand or feel of the denim one way or another. It will just get the shrinkage out. After one wear you won’t remember you had soaked them as any shrinkage you got will stretch back out, with the exception of the inseam.

Thnx … sounds fine

I normally soak XHS in 50C water for an hour and give them some agitation at the beginning and end. A wash would be fine, but get them thoroughly wet first and don’t use a spin cycle.
The point of the soak is to remove shrinkage, a cold soak/wash won’t do as much as a warm one.

Some shrinkage will be fine, I guess. Would there still be more shrinkage later on with a later wash, if I just give them a soak in cold or 30C water?

Unless you only ever plan an doing a cold soak when they need a wash, the yes, absolutely.
This is why getting it all out first is the sensible move. It will stretch back to where they are now, everywhere except the inseam. It will just be uncomfortable for a couple of days. You are only talking about 0.5-1” in the waist and all denim stretches 1” after a wash.

Alright … got it ... guess a 30°C 45 minutes soak will be my go to in two weeks. I never wash my jeans any warmer than 30° anyway.
Thnx for your patience

Morning, so I did soak them after wearing them for 3 weeks now. Didn‘t soak them ice cold but cooler, not really sure how warm the water was. Could have been around 30° maybe.
I was able to stretch out the waist about 0,6 cm prior to soak within those three weeks and did get about 1,4 cm shrinkage in the waist, which is about 0,8 cm tighter than when I got them. That will be like 0,5" I guess? The inseam shrank about 2,2 cm which is almost an inch I suppose.
Now they‘re actually fitting even better. Just love those jeans. It was so funny going from the 25 Oz to my 777-142ODs while I was waiting for the other one to dry out.
