I've been on an Adidas kick here lately, and really liking the SPZL line from Gary.
I love the Powerphase as a base, so these were an insta-buy for me when END opened the launch raffle. Guess I didn't need the raffle, as there are plenty for sale, but happy to have them none-the less!
The cream leather immediately got a vintage tumbled look after about 2 minutes of wearing them (Vintage is the point with SPEZIAL anyways, right?) and the just love how the grey stripe at the top of the EVA midsole matches the cut edges of the leather on the stripes. And Sail on the tooling and laces really kicks it up a notch. A 100x better rendition of the powerphase than the Calabasas I believe - and a more sturdy feeling shoe since they used thicker leather.

New Balance 992’s have become a fairly recent obsession, so damn comfy.
-
love that grey and blue colorway @Megatron1505 - is that a collab or a GR?
I need to try the 992s… I love my 993s, but the stability using dual density EVA foam makes them kinda hard in the heel for me, and I have a neutral stride, so it's not really needed...
-
I think they were and Independence Day release from 2020 @Appfaff
I’ve never tried a 993, for some reason they have never released in the UK. Before the current 992 love I was all about the 990 v3 and v4, not tried any v5’s……..yet
As I get older I’m embracing the all day comfort of New Balance over the bouncing of Nike or Jordan.
-
Yeah, New Balance are also like 500x better made. My 993s get little regard for care and with a quick suede brush come out looking new in minutes.
3 days in a pair of dunks and they are cooked

I’d recommend 991’s too for all day comfort, they aren’t an athletic shoe but they are great if you’re on your feet all day.

@Tago Mago sure! I own their white mid tops and I love em. The sole is pretty thin but still solid enough that you don't feel small rocks etc trough em when you walk. they are light and comfortable. they fit true to size but are a little snugg in the toebox. The Canvas is nice, thick and neppy. I have them for about 8 months or so and have been wearing them alot. Still no sign of stress points
-
thanks @scarfmace , that's really helpful. I realize that these are different price points but how do they compare to classic Vans Slip-ons or Old Skool in terms of sizing?
-
no idea, I never owned a pair of vans in my life. ???
-
@Tago Mago - I seem to believe that Shoes Like Pottery are made by Moonstar, so the sizing of the Iron Heart sneakers should be very similar to the SLP models. That usually corresponds similarly to UK sizing of Converse 70s.

Radiall Chick Gripper 'Tribe' - Bought these directly from Japan a while ago. While I'm not crazy about the pattern (Radiall also did a matching shirt!) in terms of construction and the overall shape/silhouette they're definitely some of my favourite hi-tops which is mostly what I wear. I saw a used pair of these online recently in a plain Burgundy throughout and am currently on the hunt for a pair in my size
-
Those are awesome, Ben! I didn't know that Radiall made high tops. How's the construction compared to a Converse Chuck Taylor 70s?

@Paul9221 I've been really impressed with the construction personally. Mostly I'm wearing All Star hi Made in Japan these days and haven't had 70's in a while so I struggle to remember how long my last pair lasted! But these Radiall's were already second hand when I got them maybe 6 months or a year ago and have been worn quite a bit - they're still holding up really well
-
@Ben - I'm gonna need Sonders to start stocking these STAT! These are amazing. Thanks for sharing!
I love the Possessive Collabs - are these make my someone else to Radiall's specs?
-
@Ben ok cool, so probably Moonstar? lol
they do look similar in silhouette to the Lofgren hi tops Self Edge did a few years ago..
-
@Appfaff I actually had those in the Ecru colourway they did (I think you mean the ones that had the 'Self Edge' logo in a really funky font on the side). I'd say the canvas on these feels a bit thicker/stiffer than it was on my Self Edge Lofgren's and the sole seems a bit thicker too. I sold my Self Edge's on but wish I'd kept them now!

good insight @Ben - I appreciate it very much!
