Jacques Marie Mage (JMM) - Sunglasses and Frames…
-
I like the glasses too @Graeme though I think you're right about the crossbar.
-
-
@JDelage the protrusions on the frames are fake brackets for closing the frame. The conceit is that they're a pair of prescription spectacles with a set of clip-ons over them.
@henry_david I liked the frames too, but they didn't sit on me right. Although I might have been hypercritical looking back at the photos. So I've sent them back.
The Taos pair that you've got incoming look great.
-
-
@henry_david I'll probably get a pair of the Fontana wire frames (I tried them on in May), although the Zephirims are also tempting.
-
Those look really, really good on you, @Graeme A much more staid lens design but done in a very masterful fashion, much like all other JMM creations I've seen.
-
@henry_david I haven't peeped them but they look good. I've got a good local opticians that do JMM and some other similar stuff and I like to try and pick up my specs there generally
-
Ever since I got my first two pairs of JMM I've been wanting more. Thinking about trying the Dealan 53 for opticals as soon as my local shop gets a restock.
-
Out with the old (GLCO x Thierry Lasry No. 3):
In with the new (JMM x Hopper Taos):
I'm impressed af with these. While the former are very nice, the JMMs are somehow even nicer. I like how these complement the former, too: the GLCOs are a warmer tint while the JMMs are a cooler tint. I look forward to wearing them for more than five minutes to snap pics to post here before a run.
-
Those both look great @henry_david ! You're blessed with a great noggin' shape that would accomodate most glasses
If I had to choose, I think the JMMs suit you better because they flare out less, but they both look fantastic (I'm also biased because I just discovered JMM and am head over heels for them)
-
Looking good @henry_david ! New frame shape looks great on your face, I think the downturn above the ear piece sells it for me, though I will say, I'm a sucker for tortoise
-
Love how chunky the acetate frames are on JMMs and their hardware/rivets are on point. Good choice @henry_david They are definitely on my radar whenever I need more glasses.
I am STILL waiting on some prescription Moscots (Lemtosh) with clip-on shades I ordered weeks ago. I got their Classic Havana which is their version of the material in your previous shades. My nearsightedness and now presbyopia led to progressive bifocals, perhaps that is causing this extended wait time.
-
Thanks much, @mclaincausey
Moscot supply chain all backed up to due the pandemic bs? Or some other sorta red tape?
-
@henry_david I don't have any on my radar at the moment as I just picked up the Yves a couple of months back:

Hey, you're in southern California, aren't you? Did you pick these up locally? I'm in Orange County but ordered mine from a place in FL. Would love to have a local spot where I could check them out in person.
-
Holy wow, @Paul9221!!! The Yves are gorgeous and I really like how HUGE they are while still really fitting your face well.
Whereabouts in Orange County? I was born and raised down there, living most of my time in Huntington Beach. I'm now in San Francisco however so I don't have any local recs for you. I also snagged these on eBay to get the color I wanted. Or I should say that my wife financed these for me for our two year anniversary (which is today) and I then picked them out.
Are there any boutiques/retailers in Los Angeles? We had a trip planned this month that got bumped, but plan to be in the Los Angeles area this fall/winter at some point and I wanted to see some JMM in person and try them on (and maybe even get another pair).
-
@henry_david Thanks man, I really dig 'em! Such great quality, and I'm a big fan of that black/brown color scheme.
Congrats on the anniversary! You obviously picked a winner, as evidenced by her anniversary gift to you
Ha, I'm real close to Huntington Beach! I'm in west Garden Grove. Like a mile from Seal Beach & Los Alamitos. Are you living in SF city proper?? My brother's up in that area (Redwood City).
As for the LA sunglass retailers, I really don't know. But for clothing, I know of the Self Edge and Mister Freedom stores. I love that Self Edge store!

Figured I'd post pics of my JMM glasses in here in case anyone wants more references to how they fit. They're definitely the nicest glasses I've ever handled. The 10mm acetate is like the XHS of glasses. I had to have both of my pairs adjusted to fit my head but that wasn't much of an issue. If you have a wide head you may need to have them open up the arms a bit to stop them from squeezing your skull above and behind the ears.

If I saw you on the street, @Palmer , I would totally assume you were some alt. rock star Both good looks!
You know, your timing is funny. I love my JMMs but, when I wear them for around 2 hours, I start getting some pain on my head right above/behind my ears. Can I just take them to any glasses shop to have them loosened? Sunglass Hut? Lens Crafters? I mail-ordered them so I can't take them there.

@Paul9221 Framed Ewe carries JMM in LA. They have stores in Los Feliz and Sunset.
I really wanted to get a pair of frames they had in a rare colourway, but the style didn't fit me.
