IH-777S-142od - 14oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Tapered Jeans - Overdyed Indigo
-
Just picked up a pair of these from Dutil in Toronto today and they're maybe half a size too small but I managed to squeeze in. I think the next size up would probably be a little loose after stretching - these won't shrink in the wash smaller than their initial size with the OD right? This is my first experience with the OD denim (only have had SBG prior), so I'm not too sure what'll happen with em.

Overdyed denim is pretty thoroughly shrunken by the ODing process, so you should be safe there. The denim will stretch some; I don't have any personal experience with the 14 oz denim, but there are many others that can give you an idea what to expect. Sounds like you sized properly, though.

I bought them in September and till yesterday I wore them 34 effective days, than yesterday I jumped to new IH666s WH.
So, yesterday I soaked them first time with little bit detergent as they were lightly dirty from garden works.
Right from bag I measured W34.5. Before soak I measured W35.2. After soak it returned to original sizes in all proportions, except inseam which is 0.7 shorter.
IMO stretching is not dramatic and almost any visible shrinkage under original sizes.
some pics after cca 3 weeks of wearing. Very hard to do some photo of those OD… -

I wanted to get some opinions on the merits of these compared to 777-SBG. I am partial to the 777 fit, owning a pair of 777Ns, so I know I want to go down that road.
This leaves me open to the 777S-142-OD, the 777-21S-OD, the SOP/Berkely 777-SBG.
I own a pair of 555-SBG - I love the fading of the SBG as well as the comfort of the fabric - so I am familiar with those.
How does the OD evolve compared to the SBG, and what do people think of this lighter weight denim compared to the 21 OZ, both in OD and SBG?
Thanks a lot!

Any timing for a restock?

@JerkStore 555 and 666 have just arrived so the 777 shouldn't be far behind, will update when they're on their way

Matt here,
Not a thread person, but wish to contribute. First pair of Iron Heart jeans and I'm a big fan. First pair of selvedge denim too.I want to give my feedback on these jeans. I'll say up front; a fantastic pair of pants, company out of the UK has been great with first-class customer service. I intend to buy from them again.
Purchased in July. Sent back for hemming. Probably my only gripe, I was surprised that the hemming wasn't done with overdyed thread. That was the point of sending it back (from the US). I should've been clear but just assumed they'd match the thread. First world problems!
Worn probably 75-100 days. Oddly, about half-way they developed a bit of a mild and inoffensive smell which I read here was a possibility with the over-dyed? But then IH modified their process? Oh well, then the smell went away on it’s own without a wash.
Just washed first time yesterday, by hand, denim detergent, 40deg, bathtub, 30-min soak, hang dry.
The 14oz is (to me) quite substantial. I can't imagine the 21oz. (though I guess you could say I'm 21oz curious?) I am glad I opted for 14. It's NOT "lightweight" at all and after at least 75 days wear + wash, they are hardly showing any wear at all.
I would say a small amount of dye/indigo came out in the wash. They went from basically black to extremely dark blue in full Colorado sunlight with fading along the edges of the pockets, fly and rear belt loop, corners of pockets. Mild whiskering and honeycombing only. I wouldn't say there was any "shrinkage" only what I'd describe as a slight “tightening-up”. Nothing major. Likely return to normal after a day or two.
I think really "breaking these pants in" will take a couple hundred wears. I don't think they will "soften up" easily. They will take wear & tear well. They won't fade quickly unless you're wearing them for hard manual work daily. I will double my efforts!
I will say the 777s fit me perfectly. I was a Nudie Grim Tim fan and these fit better, 30in waist fits perfectly.

Thanks for the great write up.
Regarding the hemming…The thread used to construct the jeans is polycotton. When the jeans are overdyed they are «garment dyed», that is to say the finished item is dyed. Polycotton thread is partially man made so it takes up a little dye, but not very much. To match the thread one would have to overdye the jeans again after hemming.

I got my pair in. Sized one down (33) from my 21oz sizing (34) and they fit PERFECT (true 34" waist).
Super, super soft and easy to wear. Literally no break-in. Just a lovely garment.
