Am I missing something here, what is the point of the chain stitch run off?

It's really an affectation.  It is there to prove to the world that your shirt has been stitched in the traditional way.  If you don't like it, snip them off, won't cause any problems…...

First impressions - the texture of the material is amazing. Almost like linen, but finer. And btw - non of my tattoos are visible, so it's def. not see through..

agree about the twill, also struck me as linen-like, very breathable, wears very cool
I have to say I see a hint of translucency
but not to the point that it matters
