IH-526J-142 - 14oz Selvedge Denim Modified Type III - Indigo
-
Oddly enough this happens to me with my feet as well… If I’m too warm I take socks off and I cool down and vice versa haha
Ha! Same here, except I stick my feet out of the duvet when I sleep at night
I hope it works out for you with the 14oz jacket! I'm personally starting to like the lighter denim from Iron Heart more and more, perhaps more than 21oz!

Thanks! Actually I ordered the 21oz as they were out of the 14oz in my size.
If you don’t mind, what about the lighter denim are you liking more?

It is definitely true that the 21oz denim breathes better than the 14oz denim. I think though, that this is more apparent in jeans than jackets, there is something about the heft of a Type III made out of 21oz that makes you feel hot, I think it's physiological, but still…..
Thanks @Giles… Looking forward to update on re-stocking of the XS in case the 21oz I ordered is too much to handle!
Additionally, how does it age compared to the 21oz, and the 19oz for that matter (strength, drape, shrinkage if any, etc)?
Just getting into this denim world and learning that weight isn’t everything from reading this forum and description of your jackets heheThanks!!!

The 21oz becomes very, very soft and drapes beautifully. It will mould to your body well. Fading is slow to happen with this denim, however it is a rewarding process. The indigo becomes bruised at first, before fading gently. Eventually it shows the white and the general fading is a sight to behold. High contrast fades are not normal.
I don't have any 14oz so can't really help there.

Thanks! Your reply helps a lot as I was a bit concerned about the thickness… The nice fading is the cream on top as that’s not my main concern but it’s definitely a!+... I did see Giles’ first 21oz on insta and it looks amazing:

Good question, gave me lots to consider! I think I'm attracted to the easiness of breaking in the 14oz, buttoning up and moving around. Actually I'd say there isn't any break-in period with 14oz jeans, just wear them and go! There are times in which I feel constricted with 21oz jeans, so the 14oz is a nice departure from the heaviness.
Then again the 21oz jeans become oh so soft and contort lovely to your body once you get past the break-in period. I've been wearing Iron Heart 21oz jeans exclusively since 2013 (except summer, in which I wear non-Iron Heart shorts), so to then wear 14oz jeans feels, well, refreshing. It’s nice to have choices and perhaps once my honeymoon phase with the 14oz. is over, I might go back to the heavy stuff again.
I just asked Giles on another thread what the top 3 most durable weights for jeans was in his opinion. 25oz and 14oz came at a 1st and 2nd place. I've been eyeing the 25oz stuff for a while, so might give that a try sometime in 2021!

Any idea on the next one @AdamJ ?
-
Not until March sadly @Chain$titch
-
Still has a ways to go and the lighting doesn’t do justice in some spots but I’ve had this since March and it’s gotten a decent amount of wear. I try to wear as much as possible. Gets a lot of wear on dog walks and such…

That’s beginning to look really nice

Hi! This jacket is stunning. Got the size 40, and even though it’s tight, I can layer t and a shirt/jumper underneath. Lots of fun breaking this in. Will it get bigger after tough wear? Should I soak it?
-
That’s a really nice fit! It looks great.
It won’t stretch much with wear, but it’ll soften and mould to your body more over time.
-
Will it get bigger after tough wear? Should I soak it?
As stated it will «relax» rather than stretch meaningfully. No need to soak.

Thank you so much!!! You’re spot on - it’s molding like clay

Cheers! Appreciate the knowledge - you’re a real legend here! Soaking the jacket in wear. Already got amazing folds on the arms, and love how the parts that don’t get creased stay fresh and ‘stiff’.

picked up yesterday @kentaurus Köln…
